A full view of the plant based on the alien plant sapling from the 1951 Sci-Fi film, The Thing From Another World. It's been a favorite film of mine since as long as I can remember. The plant itself is made from a plastic plant from Michael's. The stick and plant stem are glued to the bottom with an inch of casting resin. The leaves were stuck into a chunk of epoxy putty hidden partway down the plant stem, then covered over with regular potting soil. The pod flowers were constructed from tissue paper glued to a light frame of thin plastic strips and given a wash of yellow acrylic. The blood plasma is just Karo syrup with a touch of yellow food coloring. A length of plastic tube was inserted into the cork of a glass bottle and well sealed with epoxy. Needless to say it was a real pain getting the tube filled with syrup. My only regret is I couldn't figure out how to make the flowers breath.

I mostly used still frames such as [link] as references. Needless to say I had to speculate on the colors as it was a black and white film.
