A dozen merpeople had gathered, a young boy no older than seven started swimming up to the surface but his mother grabbed him and pulled him back down.“What is up there?” she asked as she pushed down on her boy’s shoulders, not allowing him to pass.“It’s a neko, a cat girl she is attacking all the neera that came to the springs” said Fimra.Kalliya grabbed Fimra and wept on her shoulder, she had given up her fight to return to the surface.“I knew those miscreants would eventually lead a predator to us, pass the word no one goes to the surface” said a tall skinny male merman with a green tail.“Come on Kalliya there is nothing you can do” said Viola and she swam down deeper into a jagged underwater cave that was lit by bio-luminous plants. Fimra held the weeping Kalliya holding her tight a moment longer before she hesitantly let her go.“You are safe, that’s what’s important, now come down to the caves we can catch some minnows, I made a new kelp ball, we can play later okay” said Fimra trying to cheer up her heartbroken friend.Kalliya now just drifted unmoving as she slowly ran her fingers over the wooden carving of herself, the gift of a good friend who she had loved but she never told him, and now he was most likely eaten by the predator that still lurked above the waters. “Promise me you won’t go back up there, that neko will get you… I said promise” Fimra grabbed Kalliya’s arm and shook it trying to get a response.“I promise” murmured the distraught mermaid. “Don’t stay out here she could still dive down, you should get inside” said Fimra nervously she looked up at the surface and she could see a large shape and a shadow being cast onto the water and she took her own advice and swam down into the safety of the interconnecting caves that existed below the springs. “I am so sorry Simis” cried Kalliya as she hugged her gift close to her chest. “Hey, I asked you to tell me about yourself, a name would be a good start, or I can just call you my little nosh” said Katrina playfully as she took another swig from the barrel of wine. The young neko lifted out her foot that she had tucked next to her body and she outreached her toe and bopped the neera on top of his head.“Boop” she said playfully. Katrina sighed a pleasurable breath as she started to feel a rush of warmth and she could feel the numbing buzz from the alcohol. “You look so cute there all brooding, do you want some of this wine, my little nosh” asked Katrina, she was starting to become irritated with the little neera, she was feeling so good, and she just wanted to talk with someone.“What are you going to do with me” whimpered the little blond male neera.“Well, I am probably going to eat you eventually, you don’t seem very fun or useful, but at the moment I am not really hungry. I could use some company. So, who was that mermaid you were talking too, are you two in a relationship?” asked Katrina, she reached down into the water of the larger pond, and she started running her hand over its surface, it was warm. “Oohhh that is nice!” The neko pulled her foot out of the hot spring and she lifted both her legs up and she slid them into the pond and then she eased her body in, it was surprisingly deep she couldn’t touch the bottom she moved her arms from side to side as she quickly kicked her legs. She dunked her head under water and ran her hands through her black hair. Katrina began to scrub her hair and behind her ears and then she ran her hands up and down her body washing off the sweat and grime of the day, she scrubbed under her pits and between her legs, she ran her hands over her plump sloshing belly, and then over her breasts her eyes locked on the little morsel that watched her, his eyes were full of lustful curiosity.“Let’s play a game, my nosh!” said Katrina suddenly and she reached out and plucked the neera from the spot where he sat, he wiggled weakly against her grasp but wasn’t really putting up a real fight. Katrina swam backwards with her legs as she held the little squirming neera in her cupped hands above the water.“You can swim right?” asked Katrina playfully.“Well, ya” said Simis timidly. “Good, so I am going to be a big bad mermaid and you are going to swim away from me, if I catch you, I will obviously eat you, but if you get away, I will give you a treat” explained Katrina with a smile. “I don’t really feel like playing” said Simis as he looked around at the water as they moved further from the shore to the middle of the pond. “I didn’t say you had a choice in the matter, I just wanted you to know the stakes, and to make it fair I won’t use my hands to catch you, and I will also give you a head start, GO!” said the playful cat girl and she dropped the neera in the water, he splashed going under the surface and then he floundered to the top. Simis looked around in a panic and he started kicking his legs and thrusting his arms moving as fast as he could towards the safety of the shoreline.“Oh, you really can swim, not bad” giggled Katrina with a taunting voice. She slunk down so that only her head stuck out of the water.“Here comes the big bad mermaid” teased the playful predator as she started kicking her legs propelling herself forward, she kept her arms against her side, and she moved quickly positioning her head behind the little struggling neera. Katrina placed her lips against the surface of the water, and she started to suck at the water, she watched as the frantic neera started to move backwards towards her sucking mouth as her slurping affected the current, she grinned with playful satisfaction. She felt his little feet brush against her lips, but her mouth had already filled with water her cheeks were puffed out, she giggled with amusement as she watched the neera start to put some distance between her as he moved closer to the shore. The devious cat girl swam in place and lifted her hands to her face while she puckered her lips as if she was trying to kiss the air, she pressed her hands hard into her puffed out cheeks shooting a jet of water at the swimming neera, she hit him with the blast. She smiled to herself as she watched her little toy cough and sputter in place. Simis looked back to see a big playful smile and then the neko continued her pursuit, closing the distance he was able to make quickly. Simis kicked and thrusted his arms gliding quickly again along the top of the water, his lungs ached but he was only halfway to the safety of dry land. “You are a decent swimmer, but did you really think you were going to escape a hungry mermaid? I am so going to eat you up my little nosh” taunted a playful voice, it was haunting it was so close Simis was starting to panic, it didn’t matter how fast he swam there was no way he was going to escape if the neko wanted to have him, she was just toying with him, he was completely subjected to her whims. The neera heard another long slurping sound and he felt himself moving backwards again, his feet bounced against the neko’s soft lips even thou he was swimming faster than he had ever swam before, he braced himself for the inevitable embrace of the looming maw that was only a slit second away from slurping him up when suddenly he felt a pair of hands reach under his arms and he was pulled quickly under the water. Simis struggled confused as he was suddenly pulled down under the water’s surface and he was unable to breathe but then he felt a soft pair of lips press against his and air was gently blown into his mouth filling his aching lungs he looked and he was face to face with a beautiful pair of aqua blue eyes, he could feel the lips that pressed against him twist into a smile as the hands that held him, swooped around his back hugging him tight as they moved quickly down towards the safety of the depths.Katrina smirked as she saw that her plan had gone perfectly, she had hoped the frantic struggles of the neera would bring out at least one of his mermaid friends, and she had been poised and ready for it. The calculating cat girl thrusted her arms forward and down and her hands clasped around the mermaid and her little neera toy. She lifted her hands in the air, the mermaid thrashed her tail madly like a caught fish.“Ha ha ha, I got you! I got you, I got you” sang the triumphant neko as she brought her catch down to eye level as she kicked her legs staying buoyant in the water.Katrina looked over the mermaid, she was beautiful she had bright orange hair and a golden tail, she was hefty much like a naga the mass of her lower body made her almost twice the weight of a neera of similar size. The excited cat girl licked her lips and she looked at the vibrant struggling mermaid.“Wow, you are beautiful almost too beautiful to eat, well that won’t be for me to decide, I bet I can get over 100 nee for you.” Grinned Katrina happily as she brought the little mermaid and neera towards her mouth, she started to lick the couple up and down the kicked and shouted in protest and then she pressed her lips around the little neera’s legs. Katrina sucked hard and the little blond neera slipped out of the wet arms of the frantic mermaid. “NOOO SIMIS! No let him go don’t please… SIMIS” cried the little mermaid as she watched her friend disappear between the neko’s lips. Katrina licked and slurped loudly jostling around the little neera in her mouth.“Ohhh, slurp, Simis was his name” slurped the neko, with a big smile, as she talked around the shape of the neera in her mouth.With her one free arm and her kicking legs she swam back to the shore pulling herself back onto dry land. she reached out grabbing her half full barrel of wine, giving the mermaid a mischievous smile. And she brought the large wooden container to her lips, and she began to chug it quickly.“Glug, glug, glug, glug” “Nooooo, why” cried the mermaid her hand went to her face covering her eyes as she began to cry “Simis no, no, no, no” she moaned. Katrina gave off a soft burp, and she then plunged the empty container into the water filling it, she then placed the weeping mermaid inside and gently placed it next to her bags full of neera. She dislodged the squirming neera from her cheek and she spat him into her hand, giving him a quick smile before reaching out and depositing him in the small hot spring she had been previously using as a foot bath. “Let her go you monster!” yelled Simis as he splashed in the neck high water. “Simis, she didn’t swallow you?” cried Kalliya wiping the tears from her eyes.Katrina flopped her head over and looked at the mermaid, her hand shot forward toward her direction, the mermaid flinched but the neko clasped her hand around her third barrel of wine, she gave off a small hiccup as she opened it and started to sip. “For now, it seems like he has finally found some spirit, thanks to you, hic, maybe he can still prove useful” said the very buzzed neko, she then took a long swig of her wine. “Did you hear me? I said let her GO!” Screamed the little neera his voice echoed off the tall cliff walls. Katrina laughed, almost spilling her wine but she caught herself. “Now, you are chatty my little nosh, unfortunately I no longer feel in the talkative mood, I just want to relax and digest, how about put all that energy you have seemed to have found to good use and rub my feet they are still killing me” said Katrina lazily, and she placed her feet in front of the combative neera.“No!” Said the contentious neera and he punched the bottom of the neko’s foot his little fist made a small splat as it collided with the wet skin.“Ya, like that but harder like put your shoulder into it, like embrace it with your entire body it’s the only way I am going to really feel it” cooed the provoking neko as she took another sip of her beverage leaning back propping herself up on one arm.“I said NO, I am not going to play your games anymore if you are going to eat me eat me, I am done” moped the frustrated neera.Katrina sat up and she looked down at the little neera he was glaring up at her with resolute eyes that were full of hatred. She giggled to herself taking another drink. “I have played this game before, how about you do what I say, oorrrr I will have a mermaid cocktail” the neko reached over and plucked the mermaid from her barrel of water and she placed her inside of her container of wine.“No, ok ok Stop!” cried Simis. “Bottoms up” said Katrina as she brought the wooden barrel to her lips.The little mouse boy slammed his shoulder into the neko’s foot and he started to dig deep with his legs massaging the neko’s left foot.“Mmmmmm that’s better, keep it up,” demanded the heartless cat girl with a moan. She plucked the mermaid out of her drink and brought her wine covered tail to her lips she placed her tail into her mouth she slurped playfully at the strong tail sucking away the wine, she then placed her back in her barrel of water. “Mmmmmmm ya, that’s very good” whispered the neko as she leaned back on her one arm sipping away at her intoxicating beverage. Tex sat at the mouth of the small cave he wiped away tears from his eyes, he had been thinking long and hard about his eighty-two years of life and everything he had endured to be alive. He was once a wild neera just like the poor youths that were now liquified nutrients pumping into his master’s intestines. He had been caught and sold to a rich neko family as a pet for young Angelica on her seventh birthday. Tex remembered resenting the neko family, he had attempted to escape once and was almost eaten by a group of neko youths, who had seen him outside his masters home with a brown shirt if it were not for the fact he was so large that they couldn’t quite swallow him, his life would have ended that day, but he escaped the group of teens and lipped back to Angelica. He was battered, bruised, and broken, but the little neko girl took care of him nursing him back to health. Tex remembered looking into the young girl’s kind purple eyes and feeling something special like she really cared for him, like somehow, he was important. She would often say cute things about how his hair was black just like hers, she would say things like “you are like my little baby”. Tex thought fondly of receiving his green shirt and being able to accompany Angelica wherever she went, her mother and father trusted him to guide her and watch after her, they recognized his age and wisdom he was 40 at the time. She would take him on family outings, they would go to the cathedral at the end of the week and learn about the goddess, they would play chase in the park and have picnics, with that green shirt no one ever bothered him as long as Angelica was close by, but out in the city of Nekotropolis while safe with Angelica he was able to witness the immoralities of everyday life for the average neera. He saw the slave trade, the food stalls, the endless manual labor that left neera broken, and when they gave up, they were eaten. Three years went by, and Angelica grew, and she attended her first year at the Nekotropolis academy, she was so excited, and Tex was very proud of her, the school day was the longest period they were ever separated as she had grown accustomed to holding him in bed with her when she slept. Passing the time without her was excruciating, but she would always greet him enthusiastically when she came home. They would do schoolwork together and Tex learned along with Angelica about all the amazing and scarry things in the world of Felarya, where they lived. Many things changed that year as Angelica was exposed to the culture and influence of the Academy, she started talking about and longing to eat her first tiny. The conversation had caught Tex by surprise he knew that Angelica’s parents did eat neera but they never allowed him to accompany his young neko keeper to the dining room for any of the family meals they would serve him his food in Angelica’s bedroom he would eat and await for her return, which would normally be faster than it took for him to finish his own food. On her eleventh birthday she returned from dinner, and she tossed herself onto her bed, she was giggling and rubbing her belly. Tex remembered how he felt so betrayed as she announced what she did, but she was so happy that he dared not scold her or tell her it was wrong. Angelica continued to grow and her eating habits, no longer bothered him because she never treated him differently, he wasn’t food to her, he was a guide, he was a mentor, he was a friend. When Angelica turned fourteen, she started talking about male neko and would often talk to him for hours about the gossip and happenings of school, she had already developed into a young woman and her moods would change often. By the time Angelica was Sixteen Tex found himself in the charge of a dozen other neera they would serve Angelica’s every whim, she became bossy and demanding of her neera, but she always spoke to him with a loving kindness reserved for a friend, he in turn insured that neera that served her knew best how to do so. Things went smoothly up until Angelica’s 8th year at the academy, she was now eighteen she started training hard for the trials as she prepared for the games, they would go out on long runs, she would take him to the obstacle course almost every day after school she became fit and trim she had developed into a grown woman. Tex trained alongside her and give her words of encouragement as she pushed herself to become faster and stronger. Over the next two years neera servants changed quickly, as any neera that displeased Angelica became a meal, things became stressful for Tex as he had a hard time keeping the morale up amongst the neera under his charge. That’s around the time where he met Nil, she was smart she was quick witted, funny and clever, she was beautiful and graceful, she picked up on Angelica’s moods quickly and became a lasting addition to the team that served her, things started getting better and fewer neera found themselves inside their master’s belly as Nil always knew when to step in and make her happy. Angelica took a liking to her and so did he. It didn’t take long for a secret relationship to form between Nil and himself, at first the clever Nil talk to him only about Angelica she was inquisitive and desired to know as much as she could about their master so that she could best serve her it was this drive and attention to detail that kept her off the moody neko’s menu. The conversation later became more trivial as they talked about dreams and aspirations, and they dove into each other’s pasts. Tex learned that Nil was born into servitude and her previous master had fallen into deep debt, and she was sold on the cheap to a shop that specialized in trained servant neera, where she was in turn purchased by Angelica’s parents as they had become frustrated with their lack of success in finding her suitable neera to make her happy. What started as an awkward silence during a conversation, turned into a kiss, a kiss that turned into passionate love making, love making that turned into a lasting secret relationship. Tex had several casual relationships before being caught, sex came easy as life was short and uncertain in the wilds of Felarya, but this was something different he was in love with Nil. Tex recalled when Angelica had completed her Tenth year at the Academy and It was only two days before Angelica would be forced to attend the trials, many of the neera servants were optimistically happy because it meant that she would be gone for almost two weeks, the first week she would be starved and subjected to endless exertion with very little sleep, and the second week she would star in the games. Tex had attended the games once, he watched with Angelica from a viewing stand, high up on a tower he couldn’t see much but it was explained to him.All neko graduating from the three elite academies would be starved and placed in a race, the goal was to reach the end of a long canyon, it would take up to a week for some neko’s to finish if they finished at all, they could be eliminated for doing poorly, and neko had even died while traversing the course. The first few neko that crossed the finish line would have the opportunity to marry into the Arch Mage’s family solidifying their place in the highest order of privilege and power. That was only half of the games, the second half was a race of another kind, neko were allowed to enter up to seven neera into the games, they would be released a full day before the starved neko youths, the first neera to cross the finish line won and would be awarded the coveted golden shirt and in turn would receive the same rights as a neko, no masters, no jobs, endless glory and freedom. The owner of the neera that won would receive all of the remaining neera that survived the games, many would get eaten by the starved neko that participated in the games, but thousands would go to the owner of the victorious neera, along with a cash prize and a level of privilege reserved for the upper class. The games were ultimately designed as a test to filter the strongest neko and neera for optimal genetic qualities for survival. Angelica was very nervous, and that night he had stayed close to her, comforting her as she slept restlessly. The next day the anxious neko was allowed to spend her last day before the trials with her family, there was a special service at the cathedral for the families of the neko participating in the games, and then they all went out to a special dinner it was the only time Tex had attended a meal with the family where the main course was neera. Angelica ate seven, along with a full helping of vegetables and a large fluffy pastry for dessert. When they returned home, she fell quickly asleep. It had been two whole days since Tex had felt the embrace of Nil and as soon as he was sure that his master was soundly asleep, he snuck off the bed and he rushed to his love, she had made her own space underneath the bed where Angelica slept. They greeted each other with a passionate kiss.Tex jumped startled as sudden scream filled his ears, he was brought back to reality for a moment as he broke from his deep train of thought, a young male voice had screamed the noise bounced off the walls of the cliff that he stood near, his cries filled him with dread and anger.“Oh, Katrina, I hope you grow out of this phase like your mother did” said Tex to himself as he let his mind drift back to the happy day that turned into the worst day of his life. Nil was glowing with joy as she embraced him, she kissed his face, she held him close and that’s when she told him the most joyful news, she was pregnant. Tex was never happier, he had dreamed of being a father and raising his children in the safety of Angelica’s home, he was sure that she too would be overjoyed by the news, she would help keep them safe after all they were his children. Tex thought that perhaps when she had children of her own, they too would become friends. Tex kissed and caressed Nil lovingly, their touching became passionate and as they were in the throes of passionate love making a sudden loud noise interrupted them. Tex looked over and staring back at him from under the bed were two angry purple eyes. Tex remembered the heartbroken look on his master’s face, and her words still ring in her ears as if he had just heard them. “How could you?” she cried tears filled her angry eyes and her hand clamped down around Nil who had been on top of him, and she was jerked away. Tex remembered crying, and begging for Nil, he had even explained that she was pregnant with his baby, but it did not matter to her, she shoved his love into her mouth, and she disappeared forever. The words that Angelica used next both confused and angered him that night and it would be many years before he truly knew what they really meant. “You are mine and no one else’s, I I I love you.” That night he cursed Angelica’s existence and for the next two weeks when she was gone for the trials and games, he hoped that she would die.
