My thoughts of the Jurassic World movies.
Hello everyone, i have been absent from this group for a time but i have thought very much on JW and Fallen Kingdom Now i wanted to share my thoughts about two new installments in the franchise.
FIRST OF ALL, I DONT HATE OR DISLIKE THEM!
I dont want to sound like a whiner, hater, complainer but its just what i have been thinking lately. And i hope that i dont upset anyone. In that case, i apologize.
With that out of the way i wanted to discuss what i like and dislike about the movies. I like Fallen kingdom more than Jurassic World and think its a entertaining movie, both are actually. But JP and TLW are still the best. I dont know if its me getting older or that movies dont live up that much anymore but i dont get the JP feeling from the new ones, i just dont.
I dont expected them to be like the first one because it can never be recreated. Second they feel more like Marvel movies, that the T.rex and Blue are super heroes only to be used to kick the "evil" dinosaurs tails. And that the T.rex is portrayed to save our human heroes lives, not all the time but still. I felt that in the earlier movies, they were more like animals and not part of a carnivore vs carnivore plot ( begun with JP 3). But if people enjoy this , its great.
Its just dont fit me that much. Sure the final battle in JW was awesome but i felt that i made the T.rex, Blue and Mosasaurus to heroes instead of animals. Im not saying that i could i have done it better myself because i could not. I dont complain but these are just my thoughts.
It would also have been great to see more herbivore action and not only be used as props to fill out the background. Triceratops for example is a really underused animal. Its iconic and could be used in great action scenes, similar to the Stegosaurus in TLW. I was pleased to see, albeit short fight between the Carnotaurus and Sinoceratops. I wished that Carnotaurus would have been the bane of Eli Mills instead of being pushed around by the T.rex. I hope i dont sound to negative but again, its my thoughts.
But what do i like about the movies is that we finally got to see Carnotaurus, Allosaurus, Baryonyx, Mosasaurus, Stygimoloch( a herbivore that did something and was not just a background piece), Dimorphodon and Apatosaurus.
When it comes to human characters i actually like Ken Wheatly, Zia Rodriguez and Dr. Henry Wu the most. I feel that Wu struggles to get his superiors to understand his work but they just brush it away, this makes me feel a bit sorry for him. I also like that he has become sort of overconfident, like in the books and that he has survived three movies and we all know that the sixt might end his life. Wheatly was cool, not as cartoony as Mills in mu opinion. A good villain who got what he deserved; He have one of the best lines in all movies" This will be the centerpiece in my necklace". Zia was great as well, i just simply liked her.
What about the hybrids then, when if first heard of Diabolus rex i thought it was unnecessary, not dumb to use a hybrid when there a lot of real, big theropods they could have used instead. But it grew on me and i think Indominus is a cool creature. However, her albino look had stood out more if the rest of the dinosaurs would have been o lot more colorful.
The Indoraptor is my favorite of the two and i really dig the look of the creature. Dont think it looks dumb or silly but in the same way think it good that it was the second and last hybrid.
Im happy that JP finally gets the attention it need with all new merchandise, just pity its when the franchise is at its end, movie wise. What i would like to see is animated feature film based on the book even more, with blood, violence and horror. But still keep the feeling that the book gives you, or at least try to.
I have been wanting to write this for a over a month but havent had the time. Not all of you will agree but just wanted to ventilate my thoughts.
