Although it’s getting rarer these days, I sometimes come across people who ask me what exactly “DeviantArt” means.  Before I begin to explain all the amazing things our community has to offer, they sometimes look at me sideways and say, "Deviant, eh? One of
those websites..."

Most marketing experts would never name a site "DeviantArt," because the word "deviant" has multiple meanings that can be interpreted in different  not always positive  ways.  Yet we are the greatest, most diverse art community in existence.  Few branding agencies would ever make DeviantArt its infamous green/gray color.  Yet we love it, and have become known for it.

Where else can you stunning fan artists alongside the best nature photographers in the world?  Or top comic book artists alongside the most talented storytellers of our generation?  We are DeviantArt, the wild card of the Internet, the raw and truthful force of good that inspires the creative minds of today and tomorrow and the next day, too.

Click on any random deviation and see the kindness we bring to our comments.  Click any random Profile and see the love it receives.  Send a Note to one of our members and see the genuine response that comes back to you.  The most beautiful people in the world live here.  The most beautiful people in the world are artists, and they want to share their beauty with you and see what you have to offer, as well.  It's hard to feel down when that kind of love races through every interaction on DeviantArt.

Our mission as a website is clear: to entertain, inspire, and empower the artist in all of us.  From offering new tools for artists to developing more ways to discover each other, everything we work on is driven by this goal and we've planned big things for 2015 and beyond.

We’re honored to be able to bring this to you, but more than that, we’re unbelievably humbled by the community who made it this way and continues to grow and nurture itself organically.

As a company, we find ourselves constantly influenced and generally in awe of the community members that make DeviantArt the unique and cultivated home for artists it's become.  Because of that, we developed four core values to emulate on a company level and refined from the purest source: all of you.

We strive to be kindred; a place where artists can come to be accepted amongst each other without question.  We're magnetic, with vast galleries so full of raw talent, you could be appreciating their art for hours.  Yes, we're a little audacious; unapologetic in our efforts to deviate from the norm, even if it raises a few eyebrows from the mainstream.  And, finally, the art you'll find here is inspiring, from the creators who have built whole careers for themselves on DeviantArt to the mentors who reach out and share knowledge with others just because.

All of that is DeviantArt.  It can be a little hard to understand from the outside looking in, but take a chance, see what the community has to offer, and share the love and inspiration with others. We’re glad you’re here.

~Heidi

P.S. - You are cool, and I am proud of you.

This website has inspired me and helped me become better at drawing.
Sure there was a few hits and misses, even some stuff i with i could hide under piles of classified information in a underground government bunker. But at the end of the day the mistakes we make help us understand our flaws and DeviantArt has helped me find those flaws.

It also is the one that made me get the courage to start doing my own stuff, when previously I believed I couldn't. And it made me try to become better with each deviation. Britney Spears Crying Yes

Deviantart is a museum where you can actually interact with the artist. It's the place where art is "living", paintings, stories, photographies, drawings are shared, viewed, criticized, praised, they aren't just put in a frame, they live.

This link is a good illustration of that :D world.deviantart.com/

I would define it as a conglomeration of art from around the world from various forms of artists who share their artistic and creative talents with other artists, whatever that art may be.

Great job Heidi! This is exactly why I joined DA.

I agree, the community of DA in the contemporary Internet is like a safe heaven: I have never been disturbed by any comments on DA. I like to read them, to see how poeople share their gratitude and love. And artists, of course. Their works energize me and sometimes they evoke the desire to live to the fullest even during hard times. I say thank you to all those related to DA.

This is wonderful. Thank you. DeviantART is like a home to me, I don't know what I'd do without it. It's truly an unique community, the best there is.

It is a social networking page that is something between Facebook with much less Big Brother-vibe to it, a snooty design "blog" ran by the staff aaannnnd *drum roll* an awesome community-oriented art platform where everyone can present his works to the world.

And it's basically free.

DA is like a home to me as well. ^^
This community site was what kept me from giving up as an artist altogether.
When I first joined, I was excited to share my art works, and was also blown
away by the art works of others. Soon I realized that this place was filled with
endless opportunities and possibilities. In mid commentary, I even discovered a
gift in the form of interpretation, and since then, combined my writing skills to
support fellow artist. This community helped me to look beyond myself with
a desire to reach out and connect with other fellow artist, to inspire and be inspired.
And in many ways, visiting many galleries felt like a visit to alternate universes, as
every gallery offers a visual invitation to an artist's personal world with unique and
interesting perspective, and style. :)

I would love to read your writing! It's so cool that you found a whole means of expression through DA. Very cool.

Thank you so much! Sure, I'd love to share what I wrote. :)

I've been working on a light novel, along with a comic version of an original story of mine,
which have been in the making for over 8 years. Mostly due to major setbacks. I lost years of my
works twice over the past. Once when my family lost the apartment, and the second time in a storage
fire. What I have now, is a rewritten and redrawn version of what I had lost from memory, only more improved. ^^

It's currently still a work in progress, with the literature being 11 chapters ahead of the comic version. I'm up to
only three chapters in the comic version.

Here's an image of what my book cover would look like, and the back cover, along with a blurb to the story. :)
It's called "The Young Adventurer". ^^

The Young Adventurer BookCover by Tenchi8 The Young Adventurer back-book cover by Tenchi8 :)

And here's a prologue that I posted to the story. I hope you enjoy it. :)

The Young Adventurer (Light Novel, Prologue )

The Young Adventurer
By Jose Oliveras Jr.

Prologue

In the end of days, the great author wrote a tale of a powerful warrior, who walked the hero’s journey.  This warrior was a hero of a thousand faces and a thousand lives. He was a foreigner who stemmed from a world brighter than most planets seen from afar.  More closely, it was gloomier and hostile to life beneath her canopy of clouds. From the wasteland, he emerged a survivor of untold nightmares that should have sealed his fate. However, a greater plan has already set his life in motion. Venturing from one world to another, with no ordinary place in any world to call his own, he was known by many as the young adventurer.

This is cool! I especially like the Prologue, a thousand lives and a thousand faces. Very cool! I am so sorry that you lost all your work twice, that sounds devastating!!! I hope you are now backing everything up on Dropbox or Google Drive or something.

Tenchi8's avatar
Thanks so much. I'm so glad you enjoyed it. :)
Yeah, it was devastating, when I lost it twice. It inspired me
to create this elusive character, "the evil entity, known as Curse of Devastation"
It's a shapeshifting creature that travels from one dimension to another, seeking to
destroy everything. The lost of my works in real life, would be the result of such thing.
And my main OC would go after it to thwart it's destructive plans. A visual metaphor
of my real life experience. :)

Hm...I've heard of the dropbox. and Google Drive. I guess I'll use those. I've been
posting my literature chapters in my DA stash. The drop Box does sound like a good idea. :)
