Gallery Makeover Project
Hello everyone :) Recently my team and I worked tirelessly on a project to help improve the gallery descriptions and thumbnail examples.  While that project was indeed tedious with almost 4,000 categories in our system, it was also educational.  What I learned from sorting through thousands and thousands of categories was that we have a lot of redundancy and a lot of categories that seem to have been created on a whim that are now simply homes for junk. Over the years, the desire to appease niche communities and people who just wanted a specific area has led to some categories that go up to 4 levels deep, and it's really no wonder it's so c
Site Update: Bug Fixes and Feedback
In our continuous effort to improve the deviantART experience, we're publishing weekly Site Updates to keep members informed and to gather feedback. Below is a list of recent changes to the site, bug fixes, and feedback that was brought up by members in the last Site Update. Connecting you with your watchers.

The Watch Feed creates a sequential stream of activity from your watchlist, including deviations, Journals, Collections, Status Updates, Polls, Forum threads and Critiques. Status Updates let people share quick updates about what they’re working on or what inspires them. Find an awesome deviation? Share it in your Status Update.

As we designed our upcoming Mobile app, we understood the need to build something streamlined and direct to deliver what you want to watch. The Watch Feed was built for smartphones and tablets. While we love the robust tools available in the Message Center — and they’re not going away — the Message Center is not an environment that works well on mobile.

Connect With Your Watchers in New Ways

The Watch Feed and Status Updates let you connect with your watchers in ways not previously possible. In the Watch Feed, deviants can easily interact and comment on artwork and content shared by your watchers.

"With Status Updates, I am closer to the people I watch, which I feel adds a deeper sense of appreciation for their artwork. It's nice to know who is behind such incredible work!" —InsomniaDoodles

Status Updates

The Watch Feed also includes Status Updates — a new way to easily communicate with your watchers.  Status Updates are a great way to share quick updates. Give the world an insider’s peek at a work-in-progress or let your fans know you’ll be livestreaming a drawing soon. Share the work of an artist who inspires you, talk about current events, or start up a conversation that could reach new audiences!

“I've been wanting an easier way to notify my watchers of things. This makes it easier with the Status Updates, instead of having to make an entire Poll or a Journal for a small issue or update.” —TheWickedBeast

Resharing Content

Using the “share” button, you can easily redistribute interesting content or Status Updates to your watchers. Using Status Updates and the “share” feature, trends, news, and art will spread through the community like never before.

Controlling Your Watch Feed

If an item is removed from your Message Center, it will also be removed from your Watch Feed. You can customize what appears in your Watch Feed by editing your Manage Friends settings for specific deviants.  (These settings apply to both the Watch Feed and the Message Center.)

If you choose to unwatch a deviant's content (for example, Journals), existing Journals will remain in your Watch Feed; however, future Journals will not appear.

please make showing status updates as "1 item only" a thing LOL ...the status looks fairly obnoxious with the big text already and even with 5 items shown that can stretch the profile scrolling in an exaggerating extent aiyo

How do you access the archive of your own status udpates outside of your phone? I want to check something I wrote before on my laptop but can't find a way to access my previous updates.

I deleted my status updates on my desktop page, but some still show up on the mobile app, can you please help.

To everyone asking how to delete one of their statuses, just do this!

Go to your activity and click on the date that the status was made. (it might say 1 day ago or Aug 16, 2016 or something) It''ll take you to see the full status update. Then just press the little arrow to the side, and you should be able to delete it!

I have been looking all over the entire site for this.
Is the activity under Watch or the Activity tab in Notifications? I can not find the status on either tab.
And is this on the mobile site or desktop?

Add the activity widget to your profile page, then you can find the status. When you delete the status, you can remove the activity widget from your profile page again. As far as I know, it only works on desktop. c:

Because of your statement. Right here. It helped me to do something I've been looking to do for a long ass time. Thanks.

Thank you for taking the time to answer me.
And I think the status might be to old to show up in the activity widget. I tried doing that ;m;

But!! I found out how to delete it by signing in with another account and commenting on the status on the app.
On Desktop: The comment and old status shows up in my notifications and I can go to the status and delete it from there!

How can you look through someone's statuses? I accidentally deleted a couple before I got to comment and I have no way of reaching them again.

is there any way to make the status update widget text smaller and less hideous? every time i try to add it to my page it makes the entire thing look blocky and uneven

I find potential in Status Update, notifying little things (like opening up commission soon, and/or livestream) is certainly going to be useful.

My suggestion is(are), aside from making it available to turn off in inbox;
is also to have its own section on individual page, making it as "username.deviantart.com/status", and/or have its own widget (instead of mixed with activity) on the front page. Poll section is a good reference for this. I personally prefer to bookmark a link and check them regularly than getting updates in my inbox (which will be mixed with other people's updates).

otherwise thank you! keep up the good work, dA : D

imo all of these unwanted updates of what people are doing is not dA's fault... it's the users way of using it, which can't be helped : ( not all people here (even the artists themselves) intend to fully utilize dA professionally. dA may need to be stronger on coming across as art gallery tbh, not facebook/twitter with advanced submission options.

Why would removing the item from your message center remove it from the watch feed
Like what's the point of that
Does any other website do that?? Nooo

It wouldn't be a problem if they had a designated status page like journals, faves, and other stuff.

Journals and status updates need to be seperate. Journals I want to see, FaceBook-esque status posts, I do not.

how can i unwatch someone's status updates without unwatching their
journals and polls ? it's pissing me off.

that should be an option.
