Work in process Coldblood by Hei-La Work in process Coldblood by Hei-La

Another oil painting in process, this time I'm trying out Liquin! This is just the first layer I painted today, so it's an ugly state! But I bet it's gonna look pretty good when finished, such a beautiful horse she/he is!

Do not use any of my work without my written permission.

Definitely! I have made some progress since I posted this. Maybe once I get all the Xmas stuff finished, I will be able to work on him even more! I just love draft horses, they have so much character!

a few month ago i meet a shire in person, it was also black
and i took some great photos of him.:) i have a nice shoot
from the side what i will use as reference for a classic horse portrait.
you know these paintings when the horse is standing in a free landscape.:)

I envy you! I wish I was able to meet more horses in general. I hope I will soon though, my sister has bought a beautiful irish cob mare and she is soon getting her <3.

lol you don´t have too! when i meet horses they usually standing somewhere close
to the fence or are under saddle. i know somebody who owns a stable with over 40
horses (mostly Oldenburg breed) but they are all so busy there. i went there a few times
but i never had the chance to take good photos. i would love to take some photos when the horses are
free on the meadow or when they are playing..:( everybody is running busy around, cleaning boxes, taking riding lessons and all the stuff you
have to do in a place like that.nobody has the time and let some horses posing for my camera, i feel very often like an idiot when i´m standing
around there and everybody just walks by with their horses without saying anything to me.
the black shire was a lottery win and normally i don´t have the chance for so good photos.

Big stables are often busy. I prefer taking photos at different horse events, that way I know it's okay to go and take photos and nobody looks weirdly at me. Of course, then you don't usually get photos of the horses without tack... But as an artist, this is easily fixed when painting XD

yes thats is a good idea, but
unfortunately my camera is not that good. from a distance
it does not take really good photos....:(

yeah a tack can be annyoing;) i had some problems with a reference
photo i got for my latest digital painting. it showed a pony with a gigantic
halter ( i don´t no the specific name, it was a kind of rope ) and the whole
face was covered.;P
