Peanuts Character Opinion Card - Violette Honfleur

Description

Been a while since I've done one of these, but nonetheless, here is one for a very obscure character from the movie "Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown (And Never Come Back)". Before we start though, credit for the original template goes to ArthurEngine

Well, the movie itself wasn't too great in my opinion, but this character was rather unique and interesting. A bit disappointing though that she essentially only appeared in the last 20 minutes. Anyway, after the movie was over, I had a lot of questions about this character, and what I've been speculating so far about her is currently drifting me more towards her having... actually, a rather dark backstory and circumstances.

First things first, Why does she live with her uncle instead of her parents? And on the subject of her uncle, major tangent incoming:

Say what you will, but I'm convinced that before he had his "change of heart" (which in my opinion, was a load of crap), that he was actually gearing up to have CB and Linus killed. Yes, you heard me. Killed. Pierre has called the dude violent, and had said a whole bunch of other terrifying stuff, and the whole context of it all (him being at a pub dancing around the subject of doing something really horrible to the boys). And even if the aim wasn't to kill him, the fact that the baron ever desired to do anything to harm the boys should be a HUGE red flag in regards to him as a prospective guardian. I mean come on! What would logically happen if it was known that the Baron was seeking to likely seriously harm or even kill a couple of children just because he didn't want them near his property? He'd be arrested, that's what! Right off the bat, it cannot be argued that this man is an appropriate fit to be the caretaker of a young girl.

That's also why I call bull on his change of heart. I don't believe it would happen that quickly or that easily, and it certainly doesn't redeem him as a character. Not with what he was gearing up to do to a couple of CHILDREN!

Back to the subject of Violette, if I knew a child who was in a position like hers, I'd be worried for what their life was like. She doesn't have her parents. It's unknown if she goes to school with Pierre; if she's homeschooled, then she probably is very socially isolated given her uncle's attitude towards strangers. And even if she does go to school, does she have friends? If she does, they evidently don't ever visit her, nor does Violette likely hang out with them outside of school hours (because her uncle wouldn't let her).

And then what about her life at home? Why isn't she cared for by her parents? Are they dead? If not, where are they? Do they not care about Violette? Or are they somehow just incapable of caring for her? Where do they live and what do they do instead if that is the case? How is Violette dealing with the fact that she doesn't have her parents? Does she like living with her uncle? I'm leaning towards no; again the dude is supposed to be a reclusive and vile human being. It's stated the uncle dislikes everyone; does that include even Violette? It's certainly possible that Violette is an exception, but if he doesn't actually like Violette or care about her, that's an uber frightening thought and it really sets the stage at that point for a truly dark backstory to Violette.

Wow, this really blew up.

Anyway, one last thing: as of right now, I currently have something of an interest in the idea of Violette and Charlie Brown as a ship. Envisioning Violette with such a sad and/or dark story kinda goes well with CB's own story because of all the bullying, failures, and depression CB faces. Being able to bond and grow close as a result of sharing their struggles is always an endearing plot point for a romance. Also, Violette seems like a nice enough character, and CB got the long end of the stick with the hug and kisses while Linus only got to shake her hand.

Overall, pretty good character with a lot of questions to her backstory. Nice enough, and potentially shippable with CB.

Hm, nowadays (after seeing that film), I wouldn't mind seeing her return.
