Idol Pretender Proportions Comparison by HeartGear Idol Pretender Proportions Comparison by HeartGear
Today I'm looking at how Idol pretender handles proportions, and how that measures up against other types of proportions.    In the past I've primarily drawn between 7.5-8 heads tall, whereas Idol pretender seems to be closer to 5.5.   Down the line I'd like to do an exercise where I draw every head height proportion from 1 head tall to 9 heads tall.

Also, watch this…

OMG dummy (talking to myself here), if you want the legs to be a bit longer than the torso and you're working with 7.5 or 5.5 proportions anyway, see how it looks at the midpoint of 7 heads and then just let the last .5 head lengthen the calves.  =S

For taller or shorter characters, do they change the head's height or the number of heads?

I like these things because seeing different takes on how this works really helps me get it into my head.

I typically shoot for 7 heads tall for female figures; 4 for the legs, 3 for the rest.  Real adult humans are usually around 6.  I'm careful the base of the thumb hangs at about the bottom of crotch for arm length.  I've seen slightly longer in classical paintings, but any shorter is heresy.

I use the 7.5 heads scales for grown up. For children, I use a lower number depending on the age.
