Star Sapphire Corps Poster by Heartattackjack Star Sapphire Corps Poster by Heartattackjack
Continuing the 'War of Light' corps Recruitment poster. This time the Star Sapphire Corps - the Bad Girls of the Green Lantern Universe.

Let me know your thoughts, did I capture the essence of the Corps with this poster?

Which corps would you join and why?

The Violet Lantern Corps is the most sexist thing I've ever heard of in comics, and that's saying a whole bloody lot!
With that out of the way, I'd probably join the Indigo Corps. Compassion's a natural emotion, for me, I guess. Plus it's on the end of the spectrum that I would actually like to be influenced by.
Heartattackjack Featured By Owner Feb 24, 2012
Originally I didn't get the Indigo Corps at all... That being said they are taking them in truly interesting places. That Compassion could be forced upon those without it, is a fascinating concept. Personally I know I dont have the Will to wear the green, I would like to think I could be a Blue Lantern and spread Hope. But in truth I think Sinestro would tempt me all to easily to join Yellow...
Maxamillion2009 Featured By Owner Jan 20, 2012  Student Writer
You would think that being one on the positive emotional spectrum, the Star Sapphires would be more inclined to being heroes instead of villains.

Well, in some way it is sexist. The creator said that men can join, but most aren't worthy. Pretty much saying men can't love. I can understand Wonder Woman and the Amazons on the Island of Themyiscira being all women, but a corps that is based on the power of emotions. Green= Will, Yellow= Fear, Red= Rage, etc it's rather silly.

While I agree with you to a point Leon at the same time I think it's how well you boil it down to Emotion in it's rawest form. Women in theory (and I mean in a broaaad sense) are more expressive and more controlled by not only the pursuit of love and the want of it, they are more vocal about it. Men... not so much.

I am not saying all women are like "zomg i needs me a boyfriend" (I'm female myself) but from a young age at least in the US we are fed imagery that says you aren't really whole until you find your heart. Thanks for that brain washing Disney.

This leads to a... lack of character really. In comics women for the most part were either idiot/dupes and foils (I am looking at you Lois Lane from your start to mid 1980s), or femme fatals (Poison Ivy, Catwoman) rarely heros (Hey Diana, what's shakin'?) but there sort of wasn't... a higher calling. I look at the Star Sapphire corps and I see an emotion so many would die to feel, to know once in their life and see a power that can actually raise the dead (Sup Wonder Woman?)

Again, not saying men aren't worthy just I don't know many men who throw logic out the window for emotion in the DC Superhero Community.

That said, Love is also a terribly dangerous emotion, it leads to obsession and obsession never ends well. So the smirk used here that little dangerous "come hither" stare with just simple expression and colour lines ROCKS MY EVER LOVING SOCKS!!!!!

The reason the Sapphires have been the Foil to the Green Lantern Corps for so long as because biological urges can overpower even the strongest will. I dunno who I'm more scared of facing a Star Sapphire with a vendetta or a Red Lantern. Seriously. Think about it. "Hell hath no fury"

Again, not saying men aren't worthy of love or even pure love just men are usually more logical and less emotional. To give yourself over totally to an emotion as erratic as love is kinda crazy. And as a woman I say "we bitches are crazy".

haha my dad says this Corps seems sexist haha..

It is a brilliantly sensuous poster that really brings out that glowing sexuality that the Star Sapphire corps have. The text is less a "we want you" of an army and more of an aggressive "Jesus loves you", showing the aggressive but romantic (tough love? rough love?) tune of the corps. More than the corps, I think you have captured Carol Ferris' personality. See, all that black and white makes me think of The Predator, that untamed monster of love that consumes one just as Rage does the Red Lantern Corps.

This is sexy and very VERY well done. As I am typing this, I am actually staring at the violet power ring I bought at the comic book store. I know that there are not many males in the corps... so dare I put it on?

For hearts long lost and full of fright
For those alone in Blackest Night
Take up our ring and join our fight
Love conquers all
(apologies if I got part of the oath wrong, but I thought it more in tune with the aspect of love if I wrote the oath as I remembered it instead of just copy/paste)
Heartattackjack Featured By Owner May 21, 2010
Hey Thanks! You really 'got it' as far as what I wanted to show with the poster for this Corps. And thanks for you comment.

I am a Blue Lantern, because everyone I know is always saying I'm full of hope, and how I'm an optimist.
theblock Featured By Owner Dec 30, 2009
Great idea, but if they love you so much why does that image make them more intimidating? But then they have a more,"We love you, so you will be assimilated" attitude :evillaugh: !

I think they're gonna have a MAJOR recruitment boost after the development in Blackest Night #6 :XD:
Heartattackjack Featured By Owner Jan 4, 2010
What's more intimidating than anothers promise of complete total love? I'm not sure about a recruitment boost, but what I would love to see some day is what/who a male Star Saphhire might be... although I do like an all female corps idea, it would still be cool to see 1 perhaps.
aimiko Featured By Owner Aug 17, 2009  Hobbyist Artist
Hehe, I love the slogan. "WE LOVE YOU." ...and will hurt you if you try to say otherwise.

This is possibly my favorite recruitment poster that you've done so far. Very nice work!

It was great at the end of Green Lantern Corps #32, when the Guardians issued the 3rd law, all those green rings flooding back to OA. You can bet alot of those former lanterns will be joining the Star Sapphires.

Can't wait to see your next recruitment poster :D
Heartattackjack Featured By Owner Feb 2, 2009
Hey, thanks so much!

I agree, #32 was a great issue. And thanks for commenting as well as enjoying!

Keep watching this space, there will be more recruitment posters as we learn more about the new Corps...

Thanks again.

great work, you showed the mystery of the corps, plus made it looked just like a recrutment poster, can't wait to see your orange lanterns, indigo and black posters.
Heartattackjack Featured By Owner Jan 13, 2009
I'm just waiting for the upcoming issues to give me a little bit more to work with on those crops. Thanks for the feedback.
