For this semester's photo class I decided to further develop my product photography skills. With the recent shift to a mini-ITX formfactor for HTPCs it was pretty clear to me to shoot sth in this direction. Because I wanted to go for a vertically oriented case the possibilities quickly boiled down to two cases: the RVZ02 from Silverstone or the PC-05 from Lian Li. In the end I went with the RVZ02 simply because I needed a symmetrical built for my setup plus the <300€ investment for the PC-05 was a little too risky for my taste...
Be that as it may I am very satisfied with the result.
Composition- and lightingwise I wanted to highlight the slim form and the vertical orientation as well as the high-design side panels with the glossy plastic windows. You will notice that everything draws the eye towards the centre. The strip light in the back (which also further highlights the slender form and the vertical orientation of the case), the reflections in the windows, the slightly angled side panels, the soft edge light in the front and of course the yellow popwer LED as the clear centre of attraction.
Also I set the case up in a way that shows it simultaneously from all the important sides. I often did presentations on Cubism and this is most likely where this approach was inspired from ;-)
