3D Dump - F-86 Sabre by HAUKKAworks 3D Dump - F-86 Sabre by HAUKKAworks
So here's something completely different. For a past few months I've been studying 3D-animation and -visualization at school and here's few renders and edits of my first 3D model done in Autodesk Maya, F-86 Sabre. The stills were rendered in Maya with Vray and the composition was done in Photoshop.

Yup, I really need to improve my topology skills... :D

Well, it seems like you're looking for feedback, so I'll put my two cents in....

Not bad for a first attempt, but in all honesty my 'Aviation Jimmies' are a bit ruffled by model looks.

But before I get into what I see wrong, I'll start with the positive: The BG's are VERY well done, and the base composition of each action image is right on, I even appreciated the faint vapor clouds coming off the wings in the last one, as they should in a high-G maneuver (which I assume is what's happening).  The only thing I'd say is about the flak bursts-they do burst in a sort of 'floral' looking pattern, but because they're airbursts, they don't have a 'base', they don't expand in one direction from one point, they envelop everything in a circle/globe. Here's a couple good refs-… and…

Now, getting to the model itself....again, it should be noted that I'm kind of a hardcore aviation enthusiast/'purist', so some of this may be seen as 'too nitpicky', but again, I'm trying to give constructive criticism for going forward....anyway.  Looking at it, the main fuselage is too bulky and square shaped, Sabre's reeeeally narrow down as they get to the tail, and the front cross section is more reminiscent of a rounded triangle or trapezoid.  The wings and tailfin seem a tad too bulky from what I remember compared to the rest of the airframe.  The cockpit also seems to blend in too much to the rest of the craft; Sabre's REALLY had a bubble cockpit that kinda stood out from the plane; also I'm not sure what's going on with the supporting metal for the front windscreen-it should be one seamless piece, it looks like you've modeled it as 2 or 3 separate pieces that haven't really fit well together, like if it were a game it seems like they'd be clipping into each other, so it's kind of jarring to look at.  I'm also not sure why you have two exhaust intakes in the nose, unless that's just paint my eyes are looking at incorrectly (and this is my biggest issue with the model, cuz here's where it starts to look really off).  Like, if you see in this ref image…, you can really see how it starts to narrow down gradually in the nose, and even a little bit of how it narrows at the tail, as well as a bit of what I was talking about with the cockpit.  The only other thing I have to comment on is how shiny it is-while yes, a lot of Sabre's were a mostly chrome finish, they weren't that....hmm, glossy? Especially not the painted ones; painted metal loses a looooot of its luster.  It'll still reflect, but the reflections won't be that sharp and defined, and for sure you couldn't see yourself in it like a mirror.

Now, I'm aware enough to realize some of this may be limitations of the software used (I wouldn't know, I'm not a modeler), but again, I'm just trying to point out things to help you improve and make something REALLY STUPENDOUS, instead of just 'oh hey yeah that's pretty cool' ;)

Anyway, hope that helped more than it hurt, and good luck from here out!

This was more than helpful and I took notes for future references. And yeah... I'm aware that the model has some serious inaccuracies (I'm also aviation fanatic :) And no, there's no software limitations, it's just me still being bad with the program :D). I just have to be more precise in the future. Who knows, maybe I make a new improved and updated version of this model someday.

Thank you so much for this feedback!

*Lets out a deep sigh of relief* Oh good, I was worried I came off as too nitpicky and critical XD
