Drowned In Gold
Imagine a sad survivor
as they look out on the remnants
of a derelict. All fallen
to ruin, sunken, and drowned. Nothing
remains, nothing at all remains.
We had everything, or we thought
we did. The future was a bright
dream, but we saw the shadows take
form here and there. We pointed, laughed,
they were phantoms of a future
yet grasped. If only what, greed ruled.
It was a bright and new age, one
where the past was some backwater
without wisdom. What is a tale
of cautionary affairs when
the crowds are lost in sweet nectar
not even dreamed by gods?! The cries
heard then were echoes on the wind
lobbed by fanciful hearts. Nothing
could have been done differently.
See, we all blossomed into true
and free individuals. Daft
notions of the self, but we lost.
We lost so much. We lost our heart
and soul, lost our community,
our power. Greed ruled, but worst pride
took hold, we actually thought
our lack of bonds was a strength! Fools.
Evil did not materialize
overnight unknown to us
