Gallery Description and Miscat Month
My name is Hardrockangel (https://www.deviantart.com/hardrockangel) and I used to be the CV for the Icons & Handhelds category.
Icons & Handhelds is one of the smaller (and let's face it: more confusing) categories on DeviantArt.
Which is why I'm here today with a guest-journal at projecteducate (https://www.deviantart.com/projecteducate) to clarify the most-used subcategories, and make submitting art to them a lot easier.
Are you ready? Let's go!
What are Icons & Handhelds?
Wedged between the larger categories on DeviantArt, there sits a smaller category under the name of Customization.
Fun fact: this category actually goes all the way back, directly to the r
Heya guys, I've got some exciting news to announce!
I've been working as a freelance illustrator for a while now.
In the recent months, however, I've been receiving a lot of support that has been steadily increasing.
This means that I've been able to look into options for registering my own freelance business (which still feels pretty unreal).
So I just wanted to say... thank you so much for supporting me every step along the way & making this possible!
Now... for a little bit of bad news (sorry!)
Registering under a partnership means I had a thorough look at Belgian tax-laws.
The main take-away: I am obliged to charge V
I'd love to get some chibi-practice under my belt, which is why I'm taking a couple of art trades.
The drawings below are examples of what I'm offering.
Pixels are a mayyyybe, as I'm pixeling daily already. @_@
If interested, please reply below with what you'd be offering & the character you'd like me to draw.
I'll pick for art trades from there.
Please don't feel bad if you don't get picked.
Please don't get mad either. OTL"
Exactly as the title says. I'm going to put down a couple of ideas I'm toying around with for F2U pixel icons so I don't forget.
But also... I'm taking some suggestions for F2U icons from you guys as well! :eager:
Please don't suggest your own OCs or art that would be like a commission-piece for your personal use only. Thank you for understanding! ♥

I'll try and write this in English and Dutch, but I just had to share this.
Earlier today, a Dutch freelancing journalist, Franka Hummels, launched the hashtag #tegendebakker (roughly translated as #toyourbaker)
as a dutch alternative for #saynotospec .
The idea is to bundle all the things freelancers regularly hear, but that someone wouldn't dare say to their baker because the'd sound ridiculous.
The tweets are in dutch, but I'll try and translate a couple of the ones mentioned in this article here.
En nu in het Nederlands: eerder vandaag lanceerde de Nederlandse freelance journaliste Frank
It bears repeating because I've been browsing dA's Job Offer-forum again
and I'm baffled by how many people ask for "professional work" and "under $50" in the same sentence.
Professional work should not be sold cheap.
Professional work to be used commercially should not be sold for under $100 ever.
Your art is worth something.
Your skill is worth something.
If you wouldn't do a desk-job for less than minimum-wage, then why would you sell your highly skilled labor for next to nothing?
Don't let anyone try and brow-beat you into thinking it is normal to work for $2/h or less.
$10/h is the ABSOLUTE MINIMUM.

So, for future reference (and my sanity, as I'm starting to feel like a broken record).
1 point = 1 cent in USD.
Please don't ask me if less than 100 points for a digital painting is fair, because that's not even a dollar. You should get $10/h at the very least.
And if you're worried that raising your prices may scare customers away and you feel like you have to charge low prices to even get customers at all...
Then why not work on personal projects?
Pretty much anything that would allow you to do with your time what you want, instead of slaving away at a piece to not even make enough to buy a burger?
Is it time for another pricing-PSA? You bet your ass it is!
I'll try to keep this one short and sweet, though, so no worries about endless ramblings.
Firstly:Don't work for less than minimum wage!
There are a couple of good reasons for this. Firstly: think of all the time you've spent cultivating your skill, be it writing, drawing, crocheting or basically anything artistic.
Think of all the blood, sweat and tears you've put into your skill, all the time and money you've spent perfecting it and how you had to push through art-blocks to get where you are now.
Are you visualizing that? Good.
Now why the hell would you go through all that, on
I can't believe it still needs to be said, but just because an icon is FREE TO USE doesn't mean you are free to do with it as you please.
It means you are free to use it as your icon, WITH PROPER CREDIT PROVIDED.You are NOT allowed to:
- Re-upload the art. It is still mine, I hold the copyright.
- Use my pixels as a free-to-use cross-stitch chart. Again: I'm providing these free icons to be used as free icons ONLY.
- Claim you made the icon, or re-upload it on other sites.
- Alter the icons and then sell them as a commission.Doing any of the above makes you, for lack of a better word, a disrespectful asshat.
It is NOT your art to just
Holy shit, thank you so much for the DD!
Thank you r0se-designs (https://www.deviantart.com/r0se-designs) and ValaSedai (https://www.deviantart.com/valasedai). You two are absolute sweethearts. <3IMPORTANT STUFF
I'd also like to take this moment as an opportunity to direct your attention to something pretty important.
If you live in Texas: the SB5-bill is not dead. Your Governor Rick Perry is trying to push it through again.
Info can be found here.
I may live in Belgium, but I found this pretty important to share.A QUICK UPDATE
I have ordered my wig for the Daenerys-cosplay.
I'll be sure to make some photo's once it has arrived! AND NOW FOR SOME MUSIC

This paper is fighting me something fierce, refusing to take the layered washes properly.But. I will finish this piece, dang it! 😤😤😤
In the meantime: if you guys have recommendations for good watercolor paper: yes please.
Cause this paper is terrible...
Have you guys heard about the "penny challenge" already?
It's super simple to enter! You just trace the outline of a penny, then fit a drawing inside that same outline.
Let's see what you can create inside such a tiny outline. :eager:
