It had been nearly an hour since Mina had followed Kansas deeper into the Iluq Forest. They had been there at least twelve times, but the pure awe and wonder the forest instilled in them never faded. The butterflies dancing in the air, fluttering from one flower to another, the fat bees buzzing and bumping into one another lazily, and the dustmotes swirling in the golden shafts of the sunbeams had such an ethereal vibe, it made Mina feel truly calm and most herself. She sighed softly, letting her eyelids slide shut as Grant walked them into one of the many beams of sunshine that cut through the forest like shimmering arrows sent from above. ...
“I can’t believe you are stealing these guys!”“Again, I am not stealing,” the thief huffed. “And it’s ‘we’ and ‘we’ are borrowing them.”“Sure… —why are ‘we borrowing’ them?” The thief’s companion, Kansas, lifted a brow and cocked his head to the side, a little amused smirk curved his lips.“Because their handler can’t take them out and so we’re stepping up and giving them a break,” the thief responded as if it were the most obvious thing.Mina reached to run her hand through Grant’s short mane with a hum, giving him a good scrub as she spoke. She glanced at the other three tokotas, Luki, Grant, and Saoirse. All were in relatively good spirits...
