WBS Blackbeard's Ghostly Sails arrived at Churchill Downs a couple days prior to the race. The WBS staff arrived a little late, but still managed to get there before sun down, so they took Sail out for their signature walk around the grounds. Sail took in the scene with the curiosity only her dam could've given her. Ears forward and nostrils flaring, she called out for any neighboring horses to get a feel for who was around the area. After the evening stroll was done and Sail was able to stretch her legs after the long travel, she was set up for the night and fed. The grounds seemed eerily calm with the subtle sound of horses chewing their dinner and the melodious chime of crickets echoing through the area. An occasional snort shot through the air but otherwise, things were quiet. Dallas wrapped her arms around herself and began to think back to her last entries in the Triple Crown Races. In the last running she had entered WBS If I Was A Rich Man and WBS Don't Play Koi With Me- both exceptional athletes, and both with more experience at the time than Sail had now. Rich Man had stolen second and Koi pulled in third. They actually had earned the same placing for the Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes, never quite pulling past the tough crowd they were pitted against. In the running prior to that, it had been WBS Ghost Hour's time to shine. In a field of 11 Ghost finished 4th, and the staff at WBS could'nt have been prouder of her.. until she won the Preakness Stakes and defeated the previously undefeated TLEC Such A Classic. In the Belmont there was a vicious battle on the track, but at the end of the day Ghost gave it all she had and pulled in third. Fellie, Ghosts firstborn and Sails older half brother, never had the opportunity to enter the Triple Crown races, though had he, the WBS staff was sure that he'd have made them proud. This would mean that Sail was the first of Ghosts offspring to run in the Triple Crown races, and they had high hopes for her. She was currently undefeated in five starts, but her record was nothing in comparison to the seasoned JA's White Wonder, who trumped her by far in that department. Though not undefeated, the stallion had an impressive list of starts and hadn't placed thus far lower than his single 4th place, and with over ten wins on his record. He certainly was a threat and Dallas didn't underestimate him in the slightest. Dallas lingered in the doorway of Sails stall, looking in. Sail was calm and content, and in that moment Dallas counted her blessings to be as lucky as she had been with her beloved horses. There had been difficult times, no doubt, but in the end everything happened for a reason. And if Sail simply wasn't cut out for winning the Triple Crown this go round, lord knows Dallas wouldn't give up until one of her horses went down in the history books with the title of a Triple Crown winner. Sail lifted her head as if reading Dallas's thoughts and snorted, staring her right in the eye. "I know, girl." Dallas smiled, "You're gonna give it all you got, and no matter the outcome you're still a champion to me."
