A Familiar Scent

The staff at WBS were excited to debut their first Ghost grand baby. They decided to bring Ghost along as a lead pony for the filly, hinting at Ghosts future career of leading the WBS horses to their races. They unloaded the mare and filly from the trailer, allowing them a moment to take in their surroundings before ushering them away. They always preferred to give their horses some time to acclimate when arriving on site. Ghost lifted her head to take in the scents of the area and in a moment her ears flicked forward as her head snapped to attention. The familiar scent was unmistakable. That's my son...!

The white stallion AS Foxfire was being led by a handler to the stables when the mare caught sight of him. She let out a shrill whinny and without thinking jerked loose of the humans grasp on her lead rope. She trotted over to the stallion without hesitation, touching noses with him. My son, look how you've grown. She nuzzled his cheek lovingly. By the time Ghosts bewildered handler got to her, Dallas was on scene. The unusual behavior from the mare was immediately understood as Dallas ran her hand along the mares rump and up to her shoulder as she walked around her. The handler rushed for Ghosts lead, but Dallas stopped him abruptly and clutched the lead loosely by the end, giving Ghost her head. She apologized to Foxfires handler, "My apologies, Ghost must have recognized that Fox is her son. She hasn't seen him for quite some time and she's very close to her babies."

By this time, Ghost was nibbling on Fox's mane, giving him words of encouragement, Please remember, son, I will always be proud of you. You could never disappoint me. No matter what happens.. Dallas allowed Ghost her time with Fox for as long as his handler tolerated, but the moment had to eventually end. Dallas lead the reluctant mare away, and the two horses departed. Ghost looked back as she was led forward and called to him, I love you, Fox. Be safe out there- and good luck!

When they arrived back at the trailer, Ghost regarded her grand daughter, Look, Apoca, that is your uncle. Please don't learn from me- I shouldn't have left the human, but I haven't seen my son for quite some time. Always respect the humans, understood? The filly watched the white stallion being led away and made a soft noise in understanding to her grandmother. Apoca was nervous about her first race, but she had her grandmother there to keep her nerves at ease. When it was time for The Devils Mile, the two were led from their stalls and both tacked. Apoca found herself shaking with nervousness and anticipation, to which Ghost nuzzled her neck to sooth her nerves. Everything will be okay, my dear. I'm here.

Dallas then mounted Ghost and Abhijat mounted Apoca. And as Ghost and Dallas led the filly away, Dallas went over strategy and the competition with her jockey. At the same time, Ghost was doing the very same for Apoca.
