Abhijat slowed the seal bay colt up after the run at the WBS White Blood Summer Maiden Mile. They didn’t manage a first, but third was good enough to still make the jockey proud. As he steered the colt over to Dallas, she took the reigns and seemed to be quite cheerful, herself. “Great run, boys!” The owner of the colt smiled to the jockey, “How’d he feel? He looked great out there.. Think he will be good for the Summer Mile later today?”

Abhijat pulled his goggles over his helmet and rubbed his sore hands through his gloves, “He was fighting, that’s for sure. Tried to blast out his energy way too soon, I had to pull him back pretty hard. Not sure if he was more interested in winning, or just trying to catch up to Koi so he could mount her.” Dallas laughed at Abhijat’s response, sending him smiling and chuckling, as well. He patted the colt and hopped off of him, stretching his legs and rolling his shoulders, “We should probably check his mouth. I feel bad, but I had to hold him back and he wasn’t submitting very easily.” The two checked Rich Mans mouth but found no blood or form of soreness to the jockeys releif. “We have to work on that, I can’t just keep resorting to tugging on his mouth like that. I don’t want to hurt him.”
“I know, Abhijat..” Dallas chimed in reassuringly. She smiled and patted him on the back, “But he isn’t hurt and you guys had a great run today. I’m very proud. He may not be Ghost, but he sure is somethin..”
Abhijat raised an eyebrow but kept silent for a moment, then spoke up, “Don’t sell him too short. Ghost Hour is a phenomenal race horse, and I feel very privileged to be her jockey.. but with all due respect.. just because we have had the honor of racing such a great mare, doesn’t mean that we have a right to overlook potential. And this colt has potential. You know as well as I do that Ghost isn’t going to be able to race forever.. so we might as well not deny another capable horse of his chance at fame..”
Dallas just stared at the jockey for a moment, heat rushing to her cheeks as she blushed and stared at him with an expression of bewilderment. For a long moment she was at a loss for words, as different things ran through her head and she felt quite mixed emotions about the whole situation. She finally just decided to not say anything about it that she wanted to at all, and sighed before her smile returned- a bit less genuine now, but polite all the same. “Could you take Rich Man to his stall? I think I need a moment. If you can’t manage his tack, you know where the handlers are- they will be more than happy to ablige,” She paused, “And again.. good job today.” She smiled once more before walking off, and some handlers that had been close by managed to make their way over to take Rich Man’s reigns and help out. Abhijat pursed his lips and nodded to himself, “Yes, ma’am..” he muttered.

WBS Dont Play Koi With Me was feeling her oats from her previous 2nd place at the WBS White Blood Summer Maiden Mile, and she was ready to kick butt at the non-maiden mile now. The downside was that they were on the same day. Storm Ducati, Koi's Jockey and Owner, had made a point to rest her up until this day to make sure that she had the energy needed to complete the two races in one day. WBS was proud enough that Cloud had broken his maiden, but he didn't have to worry about running a second race since it was just Koi and Rich Man running for WBS in the Summer Mile today following the Maiden race. Cloud had done his part and was moved to his stables after some pictures in the non uniform winners circle for some well deserved rest. Koi and Rich Man, however, weren't blessed with this luxury as it was off to be untacked, groomed, rested in their stalls for a short time then starting the routine all over again. Storm dismounted the chimera filly, got help untacking her, and led her to her stall to be rested and groomed. Koi had been very excitable at first when she finished her run, but afterwards was showing her more calm side. The battle in the previous race had worn her down quite a bit, but she had a new spark in her eyes that hadn't been there before. Koi had a great track record so far, but until now, it had never been assumed that she actually enjoyed racing.. until now. With a determined bob of her head, Koi sounded a sweet nicker, bumping her head into her jockey whom was busy at work grooming the sweat and dirt from filly. Storm smirked and rustled her fingers quickly and roughly through Koi's mane, half in attempt to bring some energy back into her mare, and half because she could barely hold in her excitement from the 2nd place, "Good girl, Koi Fish... My brave girl." Storm smiled and tried to kiss Koi's nose but she moved her head away, so the jockey settled for a kiss on the fillies cheek, instead. Typical. Koi lowered her head to take in some water from her drinking bucket as Storm made her way around the thoroughbred mare, grooming every inch of her until one of the handlers came to the stall door announcing that it was time to tack back up and get ready for the Summer Mile. By this time, the temperature had skyrocketed, making redoing the process that more uncomfortable and tiresome. So the routine repeated with tacking up Koi and leading her out to the loading gate. Koi resumed to her normal self, getting nervous about being in the gate as the other horses loaded around her, but Storm talked to her reassuringly and she seemed alright for a moment. The bell sounded and the gates opened, sending Koi into her second mile of the day.
