the only time real I flat-out shamelessly rage quitting one time when I made the mistake of trying to play Marvel vs Capcom 2 online, for the first and only time. The dude I got matched was so insanely and inhumanly good at it that I might as well have just left my controller on the floor, I would have absolutely no less of a chance with it in my hands; it was like a new born baby versus a freaking world champion heavyweight boxer. needless to say I left within mere seconds and have not bothered since. I hate how fighting games just seem to have no middle ground for skill level whatsoever; you're either a complete fucking master with 87-bazillion hit combos or a complete n00b who was no idea what they're doing. wonderful fucking learning curve, eh?
other than that if changing servers in FPS multiplayer games counts as rage quitting than I do it occasionally. If I'm getting my ass kicked to a certain extent but I still manage to fight back I'll still hold out for the match to end, but if it's just absolutely hopeless I'm not going to bother wasting me time, and I'll usually leave immediately. the best part is I'm usually the host of the game so the lobby either migrate hosts or end completely, it's nice to just give them that one middle finger as I'm leaving I guess
yeah that's why you want to avoid new big budget high profile blockbuster releases. For example you never want play the latest 3 or so COD games, because the lobbies will be full of try-hards, 12-year-olds, D-bags, campers, trickshooters, people who blast music through their mics, etc. if you play something like COD 4 which came out in 2008, the online community is still very alive and well but it's died down to the point where it isn't oversaturated with "undesirables", you just play against normal people and have a very good competitive online experience. to be fair though, since the game has pretty much been abandoned for years by the developers the security is almost nonexistent and you'll run into hacked lobbies all the time where you do things like shoot an unlimited supply of rifle grenades without reloading, jump to the freaking moon, fly around like superman etc. For me they're kinda refreshing and hilarious but if you're trying to just play a serious match it's quite annoying.
if you have any interest whatsoever in shooter games you really should while you still can; don't let the franchise's bad rap nowadays obscure you're view of the classics. it didn't really loose its focus until black ops or MW2, almost anything prior to that is well worth your time; take advantage of the fact that the older entries still have their servers up because they won't keep them online forever!
