Dancing Cranes: silk kanzashi tsumami zaiku combs.

One of these is actually a WIP, since it's part of a larger more complex design (the left dancing crane). The other one is a stand alone piece, and rather charming, I think.  

Anyway, I also make dancing cranes because they have such graceful movements. They're really beautiful to watch, and some day I'd like to see them in person. Hopefully I have captured some of the grace and beauty in the natural cranes. 

This is a traditional art from Japan called tsumami zaiku (つまみ細工）. These are silk hair pins! I made them one feather at a time by folding small squares of silk. I then sculpted an armature and set the cranes' feathers in a way to suggest movement and grace. The one on the left is a remake for me: fav.me/d3h7z0r , and I make them to order for customers.
