WOW, these are very reminiscent of "The Integral Trees" in the Larry Niven book by the same name, just a bit metallic. 100 kilometer long giants tufted at both ends with both branches and roots...

In an alternate timeline Niven wrote it as a steampunk novel and this image is on its cover.

Or so I can dream :-)

This is outstanding.

That's so cool. Someone else pointed that out. I'll have to get a copy!I have Lucifer's Hammer and the Mote books... Thanks very much for all your kind comments!

You're right! I just focus on the art and start typing. Reading the comments first would probably be a good idea for someone new to DA, LOL, my duplication was not deliberate though, just enthusiasm.

Nah, that's ok! I doubt many people read all the comments!

Gorgeous detail! Extremely polished, I would love to see the animals that lived amongst these trees ... WOW. ^_^

A suitable illustration for larry Niven's 'The Integral Trees' [link] and 'The Smoke Ring' [link] .

Thanks! I never realized Niven was so prolific a writer. I have several of his works, the 'Mote' series and 'Lucifer's Hammer'. (Maybe more...) :)

The 'Moties' were brilliant, especially 'Crazy Eddie'!

aeglandyad, I duplicated your comment and did so inadvertently. I apologize for the faux pas. I just found DA, the excellent artists here, and the astute commenters, and should probably read more and post less quickly but I become captivated by the art and just start typing away... :-) Sorry about that.
Allow me though to compliment you on your taste in authors! There seems to be a lot of references to science fiction books on the pages here in DA that I have visited; I'll get to see great art and pick up 'recommendations' for good books too no doubt.

We have a whole folder devoted to science fiction and fantasy. Not only can you see my impression of Epiktistes, The Kistec Machine, The Lady On The Grey and Winston Niles Rumsfoord, you can actually read the stories in which they appear as pdf files or website entries if you follow the links in the artist's notes. A sort of advert for this runs permanently on our home page: [link] . I'm afraid you'll have to scroll down a bit.

Thanks! I will be sure to visit. I became semi-obsessed with finding something that would capture the essence of the 'Ringworld' with Fractint but never did. I'm thinking MB may be more conducive to vagrant fixations if I can just learn to use it properly. Thanks again for the link.

You are so kind. I need to actually go back and read your tutorial all the way through again. I was so excited that I think I might have missed half of it. Ha ha ha
