This is for the Mandelbulb 3D Teaser group. ([link]) The challenge was to make a hybrid Fractal with using Jcube3 & ABoxVaryScale2 only. Using Julia was optional. I used the formula sequence of F1 ~ ABoxVaryScale2 and F2 ~ Jcube3. ABoxVaryScale2 was set to repeat from here and Jcube3 interation count was set to 2.

Nice.

Not sure a subterranean city would look so much like a city above ground, being different in being underground but the same in every other way.

I have the same problem with many imaginary spacecraft. People seem to have trouble shedding the assumptions arising from the properties of aircraft or ocean-going ships they've seen.

Thanks! Really though, you as the artist can imagine things however you want. If your space ship looks like an air ship as well, that's probably because it can travel in the atmosphere too! At any rate, I found this city/building, I didn't set out to create it. And once found, I just went with it as best I could. It's like, I don't know, I've never seen an underground city, so who is to say? :) But I do understand your point. That's why I don't do hard science fiction, there are to many purists who want to tell you your tech is all screwed up! LOL

I do like this a lot as art. Perhaps this was the result of some set of formulae, and once it was created, you were faced with the problem of giving it a title?
HalTenny's avatar
Yes, it was a little challenge project to use two specific formulas. I worked at it for a few hours and was getting nothing I liked except building shapes. Others who used the formulas seemed to have better luck with some variance. There's a saying that goes something like, Once you see something, it's difficult to un-see it. :) As far as titles go, I really hate doing titles, but I go with what I see, or what I think others might see. If zoomed out on the fractal, there are many building shapes, but it was to much of a pattern and organized for my taste. So I zoomed on the largest structure and kept just a bit of the other buildings at the bottom...
