Sir Cloud Strife with Sword of Buster ~ (Final Fantasy VII etc)

Major Sir Cloud Strife, pictured with the Sword of Buster, (c. 2020) was a former elite SOLDIER warrior who became a courier after his retirement. He is mostly known for his hairstyles and physical prowess, though the excellence of his courier service is generally without mention throughout the histories...

About the Piece:

Hooray!! La la la la La la la la La la la la ANOTHER Cloud Strife! Truly, I didn't expect to do another Cloud portrait but the overwhelming obsession with my first piece of him has been so popular over the last year both online and in-person that I couldn't not do another version. Once again, Cloud was my best selling print at Auckland Armageddon in October 2020, and this newest piece outsold the first one (but not by much). Based on a fantastic portrait from 1823 of naval engineer William Cornwallis Harris by Ramsay Richard Reinagle, this portrait definitely has a different feel and tone, so some of you may like this one better and some may not. I chose to make this piece a bit moodier, using deeper colours and going for an overall grittier feel. His expression is a bit more stern and quite brooding, so I wanted the piece to match. Midgar is overlayed in the background faintly. The outfit has been heavily modified from Harris' original: the buttons, collar, wolf brooch, shoulder armour, leather strapping, and black satin sash have been constructed to make Cloud's attire. Actually, the only thing original is the gold left shoulder cuff and the base fabric itself, though those have been recoloured. The detail of the black satin sash was rather destroyed in the original painting, so I modelled a satin robe on my boyfriend, pinned it into the drapes that I wanted, and used photography to superimpose the detail of the draping into this piece. Worked like a charm! Nod Really happy with how that turned out. I also decided to put in the Buster Sword to really make this piece say "CLOUD STRIFE" loud and proud. People seemed to really enjoy the addition of the enormous sword in the back and it gives this portrait a more solider-esque, if you will, feel than the other very stoic, kingly portrait. I tend to like this piece more than the first one, but that's just me. I hope you all enjoy it regardless of which one is your ultimately fav! Heart
