San Diego Comic Con

Journal Entry: Mon Jul 28, 2008, 11:49 PM
Hey guys, sorry I haven't been on DA much in the past week.  I was at Comic Con with my sister HelloCaity and my friend dlin.  And holy hell, was it fun.  ^_^

I'm not really going to go into crazy detail about the con, but I had a great time wandering the dealer's room and attending the various panels.  I got a book autographed by one of my favorite authors, Jacqueline Carey.  My sister got an autograph from Steve Purcell, the creator of Sam and Max (if any of you are familiar with that).  My favorite panel was the one with Kevin Smith, Judd Apatow, Zach Snyder, and Frank Miller.  (It was raunchy and fun.)  I ate a lot.  Slept like the dead each night.  Saw a bunch of cool costumes.  Spotted Samuel Jackson for about 5 seconds as he walked past us among some secret entourage which quickly swooped him into an off-limits room.  Bought some nice art books.  Got tons of free stuff.  Snapped a photo of Nathan Fillion as he was signing posters (although I didn't get into line for that.  It was far too crowded.)  And by pure chance, as we were leaving the con for good, I saw Jonathan Frakes and Marina Sirtis standing nearby among the crowd, trying (surprisingly successfully) to blend in.

Man, Comic Con is wonderful.  I went for the first time with dlin in 2006, and I plan to go every year from now on if I can.  Not only is it fun and entertaining, it's often pretty inspiring as well.  Can't wait until next year.  :)

The only downside is that my DA message center is a mess right now.  And more importantly, I have a ton of work to catch up on.  No time for personal art at the moment, and that's really frustrating, since I'm so in the mood for it!  :P

Oh, I missed some really awesome panels, apparently.  There were so many, it was impossible to go to them all.  Did any of you go, by any chance?  How was it for you?  :)

Edit:  29.Jul.2008
Ugh, hurt my wrist during the stupid earthquake this morning.  (Just twisted it while grabbing onto a railing to steady myself.  Stoopid.)  But it hurts to type, so I probably won't get to my messages tonight.  Blah.

Yeah, I'm going to try and do one of the big cons next year but I'm not sure which, I was thinking either San Diego or Chicago. Either way I'll have to fly in. :)

Never been to any cons in Chicago, but San Diego's lovely. You do have to buy tickets and get a hotel early though. There were no tickets sold at con this year since they'd already sold enough to fill the building to capacity. o.O

Wow. O.o Yeah seems like the one in San Diego is the one I hear about most. :) If I can't get a spot next year, I may wait one more year to go. I'm definitely planning on making rounds one year though. :D

I did, yup! ^_^

Oh, fortunately it was my left wrist (I'm right-handed), so it only affected my typing, not drawing. But it's fine now, thanks!

I'm afraid I've never seen Heroes, so I don't know. ^^;

I don't have any TV channels. Haven't watched TV in years. Although Heroes sounds cool. I might get the DVDs to watch.

seriously, if Samuel L. Jackson wanted to roam the dealers room fangirl free, he should do a tusken raider cosplay or something else that covers face, and make it crappy so few folks stop him for photos..

hee, Frakes got a bit, um.. non-Riker as of late, (hes still the shizznit though!), but how Sirtis blended in escapes me XD

some glorious day though.. some glorious day...

still miss seeing you this year though :(

Oh, he wasn't in the dealer's room. He was walking from one restricted area to another. Just crossing a hallway in the panel room areas. He was surrounded by an entourage. It was fun seeing him because a lot of people didn't notice.

The two of them were leaning against a railing that was near a wall. And when people started noticing, they both casually turned around to face the wall and resumed their conversation with one another.

Aww, maybe next year. :)

Oh man I know how you feel, and it hurts to think of it. I bet you have a ton of messages all right for the contest too hopefully. XD Then again, I'm not helping clear your plate by talking to you, sorry. Good luck getting to your art again. Glad the con went well

I really didn't even know that SDCC was such a big deal... But EVERYONE goes there, apparently. I'm definetly going to try to make it next year.

P.S. you people with no one to go with should talk to someone else who has no one to go with. I bet you could get a group of 100 deviants together in one party if you tried.

Oh, it's friggin' huge! In 2007, they had 125,000 people attending. I'm betting this year was even more. ^_^

I really wanted to go to SDCC this year hehe but I had a work commitment that conflicted with a trip to SD... and also (this is going to sound really sad and dorky) I didn't really have anybody to go with LOLOL~ I really hope I can go next year ^^ Sounds like you had an awesome time! I was told that SDCC is something you should do at least once in your life haha~

Ooh, yes. SDCC is definitely an experience. I hope you can find someone to go with next year. It's more fun to go with a friend or two. I think 2-5 people is nice. Any more people, and you start having troubles with staying together in the (very packed and crowded) dealer's room and finding tables at restaurants during dinnertime.

OMG! You're so lucky! I was gonna go to Comic-Con, but I was too late to register for tickets and had a major jaw-ache after pulling 2 of my wisdom teeth out lol!

I'm happy that you had a great time there!

Yeah, tickets sell out a while before the con. You can't get them at the door.

This year was insaneeee, the movie booths are massive. Next year I'm going to have to make a point to walk even slower, try harder to see everything, and try to meet people. I wish I had more friends to bring along with me who would be as enthusiastic about it

I keep looking back and thinking 'damn! I shouldve gone and seen that' and such :] ComicCon is such a good yearly treat. I just finished pinning all the art I bought there on my bedroom walls, and my thumb is so sore from all the thumbtacks D:

It's easier to see things on Sunday when the dealer's room isn't quite so crowded.

LOL, yeah, there were some really cool panels that I missed! Argh. Too much to see.
