Q and A

Journal Entry: Mon Nov 17, 2008, 11:22 PM
I've been a very bad little deviant in the last month.  Haven't kept up with my inbox and am going to have to mass-delete messages.  I'm very sorry about that!  Since I will probably accidentally delete people's questions, I thought it might be nice to hold a Q&A in this journal.

Feel free to ask me anything, art-related or not.  Serious or not.  Under one condition:  If you ask me a question, I get to ask you one too!  :)  Sharing is only fair!

I won't give out safety-related things like my full name, address, or telephone number.  But I'll try to be open and answer everything honestly.  EDIT:  Oh, and feel free to ask more than one.

If this doesn't turn out to be too painful, would you be interested in (extremely) occasional Q&A journals like this in the future?

1. Fullmetal Alchemist, Last Exile, Gungrave, Escaflowne, Samurai Champloo, Trigun, and some others.

2. I can't answer that. I don't think dying is cool in any way. :( To grow old and go peacefully in one's sleep seems the least painful to me, but I wouldn't call it cool.

Well, you said they could be silly, so...

If it were possible and non-detrimental to your health, would you eat a string of Christmas lights and what would they taste like?

(I can't believe I'm actually asking this.)

:iconhakubaikou:
hakubaikou Featured By Owner Nov 19, 2008
No, I wouldn't, because I don't imagine they'd taste very good. :puke: I 'd make an exception, however, if I could swallow them hold and have them light up in my belly so that I had a pretty torso with glowing colors. That might be fun. Sorta. :p

Question for you: What's the weirdest thing you ever ate?
Reply
:iconadilande:
Adilande Featured By Owner Nov 19, 2008
Oh ee gads, you had to pick that. When my cousin and I were... oh, eight or so... we got up to no good in the kitchen. For whatever reason, we were unsupervised, so we started mixing random things in a bowl. A short list of what I can REMEMBER being in there follows:

-2 kinds of Karo corn syrup
-Vinegar
-Cocoa Powder
-Coffee Grounds
-Flour
-Sugar
-Salt and Pepper
-Pickles

... sufficed to say, I cannot describe the taste; even the memory of it makes me gag today, a decade or so later.

For less disgusting and more "weird," I'd probably have to say blood sausage.

New question! Why do you think Asians invented chopsticks instead of silverware like most western countries?

:iconhakubaikou:

 That concoction sounds awful! :puke:

I have no idea. If I had to make a guess, I'd say that they didn't want their silverware to be shaped like weapons. Knives and forks hint too much at violence, perhaps? Maybe they don't like stabbing their food? (It's considered rude to stab food with chopsticks.)

I don't know. :p

Hey hey! You didn't ask one back! I gots a freebie, whoot.

I don't know about the violence notion, considering Japan and China tried to invade each other several times... If I remember right, stabbing food with chopsticks is something done at a funeral, which is why it's considered rude in other settings... don't know if it would have any affect on their opinion of silverware... XD

Which is better--blue polka dots or orange stripes?

Depends on what the background color is. :p Although I generally like blue better.

I'm probably not going to ask people any subsequent questions after my first one. It's too hard thinking up new things to ask. ^_^

When you were younger, did you envision yourself to be an artist when you grew up, or did you want to work in a different occupation? Be specific and name which ones you were interested in if you did. :)

Yes, I did imagine being an artist, but I didn't really take it seriously. I just thought of it for fun, like I'd imagined myself as an astronaut or super spy or jedi, you know? Same thing. It wasn't a serious consideration.

When I was a kid, I wanted to do special effects for films. I didn't have any specific field within special effects that I was interested. I just wanted to have anything at all possible to do with it. That's pretty much been my dream job since I was around 10 or so.

I'd also briefly entertained the idea of being a concert pianist. But I didn't feel like practicing 6+ hours a day, so that dream faded pretty quickly.

When I got older, I did start thinking about art more. But it really wasn't until a few years ago (after getting encouragement from fellow DA artists) when I started really considering art seriously.

My turn: Your favorite artists outside of DA?

1. I was watching an anime DVD of another series. (I can't even remember what it was.) And one of the previews had an awesome swordfight in it. (Which I later realized was the fight between Saitou and Kenshin right before he left for Kyoto.) I was curious about the show and bought the first Kenshin DVD to watch a few episodes. And then I was hooked and couldn't stop. :p

2. On average, probably about 10-15 hours. But some have been as little as 2 hours, and some have been over 20. It really depends.

3. My wacom tablet.

My turn: What anime series do you like besides RK?

It's always the previews that gets you caught :3

Other anime? Let see here, Cowboy Bebop (soundtrack owns me completely), Trigun, Samurai Champloo, Eureka 7, Macross Plus, Gundam (just about all of them except Seed), Bleach, and Sailor Moon (yeah you can laugh at that one X3)

2. A painful death. :(

Good movie-choice. :)

I really understand your fear for dying a painful death. I feel that way too; plus I'm scared of receiving pain and/or loosing a limb. :P

Oh, gee, that's one of the hardest questions you could have given me! I'm very much in love with both violins and guitars, and I have many, many songs to choose from...

A band called Sins of Thy Beloved has songs with violins in them, and I love the way they remind me of our Norwegian mountains.
Ed Alleyne Johnson is a great and unknown violinist... [link] Here's a clip. :)
And there's plenty of movie-soundtracks with violins in them...
This question is too hard.

Some of my favorite guitar-songs, though, have got to be some of the Mastodon instrumentals  Like this one: [link]

I think the Q&A journal idea is really neat, not to mention considerate ;)

Okay, this might be a little more of a personal and/or weird question: Are you very outgoing in real life?
Reply
:iconhakubaikou:

No, but I fake it very well. :) People tend to think I'm really outgoing when they first meet me. And the more they know me, the more they realize I'm a hermit.

Question for you: Have you ever tasted ink?

hakubaikou Featured By Owner Nov 18, 2008
^^; I've always liked to draw as far as I can remember. I have no idea why I got into art. I don't remember a time when I didn't love it.

But I can tell you what got me into fantasy themed art. Piers Anthony's Spell for Chameleon. I read that when I was 11, and it hooked me into the world of fantasy forever! :)

Question: If you had an unlimited budget and resources for a photography expedition of your dreams, where would you choose to go, and what would you take pictures of?
Reply
:iconerickghint42:
erickghint42 Featured By Owner Nov 19, 2008
Oh wow... limitless budget eh? Aside from a hell of a camera equipment upgrade, I would have to say that the trip would have to start in Kyoto, Japan. From there I would travel the whole of the island nation, and slowly make my way across Asia until reaching Dharamsala, India. My goal would be to photograph all the historical (and in some cases new) Buddhist temples. Old and new. Those still standing and those torn down. To have a chronicling of that... just wow. I would have to make two trips however, once in Winter, and once in Spring to catch the drastic changes in the scenery. :)

Here's my question: Are you ever going to finish "Against a Sea of Troubles" or has that plot bunny long passed on? :)

And my other one was, didn't you have a story that was about a situation with Saitou and Kenshin being caught in a blizzard together, or am I mistaken...?

*Crawls in a hole and hides.* I've been meaning to finish that story for 4 years. I honestly don't know. I want to, but I can never seem to find the time....

No, that wasn't me. Although the premise sounds really interesting!

Question for you: What are your favorite foods? Besides shrimp tempura. :p

Heh, thanks. :)

Damn, now I have no idea who wrote that story and I can't find it again...noooooo! Ah well, is no biggie. ^_^ In fact, I'm re-reading "Recovery" right now.

And strangely/sadly...there was a story on your site, I can't remember who wrote it- but it was an Alternate Universe story that took place in Minnesota...in fact, it took place at the school I go to now...and in all honesty- that story was part of the reason why I chose to go to the U of MN. Odd...quite. ^_^

And now to answer your question- dumpfnula w/ Hosmer sausage. Dumpfnula is fried bread dough that my grandma makes- it is delicious...and Hosmer sausage is delicious...it's sausage you get from Hosmer, SD. ;D
