He was a very good (and inspired) soul, and I suspect he will go round the wheel again .. it is just that it may not be in Hollywood, and we will not all get to know him.

It came to my attention, also, a sad thing, but there is relief in passing, when the getting there is pain.

Hollywood could use more types like him. :)

If it were your soul, and they wanted to send it to Hollywood again, would you go? ..

I would respectfully decline, in no uncertain terms.

He was a good actor, but he did more for the world as a person in his own right, and that counts for lots.

Erm... considering I live in L.A. and am working in the film industry, maybe that's not a good question to ask me. :giggle:

oh oh .. faux paux ... :omfg:

But do you work in the "films" or in non-people-esque media for public consumption?

True story: My Mom and Dad and I were visiting family in LA (Aunt Leeta?) and someone was going to get my Mom a screen test the next day ... we left before dawn, and never went back out there!

^_^ No worries, a lot of people who work in film can't stand a lot of the other people who work in film. There are many different types of personalities working in the industry, but I think the slick and superficial ones tend to get more attention. :p

I work in films, mostly doing pitch art, concept art, and some really minor visual fx work. I'm just starting out though. The largest thing I worked on was a sequel that went straight to DVD. :p

LOL, wow, your mom must be very beautiful! ^_^

Well, as "beauty" is the floor of the 4th level of the Sepheroth, I will abstain from calling anything that in the future (A joy forever, is a long time on the threshing floor of G^d.) ... But she was attractive .. she is now 90, and aiming at 100!!

I will always remember the man that acted with Liz Taylor in 'Cat on a Hot Tin Roof,' and as Doc Hudson of Cars. This depressed me when I first saw the news.

...Is it even more sad, that people associate him more with salad dressing, then his great achievements and career in acting? :(

Well, at least the salad dressing sales are for a very good cause. :) And I think the people who associate him with that are probably pretty young.

oh, ditto, I heard and was so sad. I really loved him, both in his younger years and the few acting bits he did when he was older. He was such a great guy, especially with all his charitable work. He'll definitely be missed.

This is a huge loss... :(. I always admired His talent, whatever role He played. "The Sting" is still one of my favourite movies. And that's alleviating - although I will miss Him, I can always watch one of His movies, and feel as if He is still with us.
R.I.P., Paul.

I remember when I was little, my dad showed my little sister and I "the Long Hot Summer." That was when I first saw Paul Newman, and when I fell in love with his acting style and verve, along with the awesome Joanne Woodward. This is a sad day for Hollywood, as one of its last real Movie Stars has left forever.

I never did see Long Hot Summer. I'll try to rent it sometime.

It's wonderful that they were together for so long. You don't see that kind of commitment in movie stars anymore.

His was the first salad dressing I wasn't allergic to and was allowed to use. He made salads palatable for me.

o.O Wow, that's a unique perspective on the man.

I think I've only had his salad dressing once, but I remember it being pretty tasty. It was for a party. Can't remember which flavor I'd bought though.

He's got a whole variety of foods, now. Those salad dressings let him grow his business a lot. And he donated to charity much of his profits. Mostly children in third-world nations and the like.

Paul Newman? How many people is that this year? We've had (to my knowledge):

George Carlin
Bernie Mac
Isaac Hayes
Don LaFontaine
Heath Ledger
Stanley Kamel

I may have forgotten a few... but damn. It seems to be the year of loss, when it comes to talent.
