My entry for *nJoo's 2D Rock-off contest. It's a bi-weekly contest that's part of the Starock contest he's co-hosting with `zemotion, so if you're interested check out his journal for info on the 2D art portion of the contest, and her journal for info on the photography portion of the contest. Thanks to both of them for hosting something so fun.

As for this, hmm. The theme was to draw a fairytale steampunk style. I've never done a full steampunk painting before, and now I know why. It. Takes. Forever. :-P Goodness knows, I love doing textures, but I think I'm all textured out for a while. Sheesh!

The usual. Start to finish in Photoshop. Used Google for loose refs of swallows, piping, and aviator outfits. Textures were done via a combination of *leventep's, my own, and Photoshop's default brushes.

Love the steampunk bird. Clever signature! Thumbelina's wardrobe is great; feminine, but still practical for flying. The aviator cap is a nice touch!

Love this, everything about it is fabulous. The way you have framed it, the chain with slight out of focus movement, the cheeky eye on the swallow and fantastic helmet it wears. The colours and clouds and slight indication of city in the distance. Just about to fly off?

AMAZING!!!! WOW! I absolutely love the life of this picture. I love the fact that you used the close-up, blurry images to add so much depth. If I may add a small constructive criticism though? It seems that her face, however beautiful, lacks the incredible attention to detail that is evident throughout the rest of the piece. I know the face is mostly covered by the obligatory steampunk goggles, but perhaps if you could add some dimension to her face (a scar or smudge of dirt or engine grease) it may help with continuity.
