Apologies for the lame title. Once again, I can't think of a decent name for my painting.

I used a reference photo for the landscape: a picture I took while on a trip to Zion National Park last summer with *fevereon - [link]

Otherwise done the usual way, start to finish on Photoshop.

Wonderful technique with the water and flowers. The lady looks like she was added in later - was she an after-thought?

Eep! Caught! :) Yeah, she was added later. I left a space for something on the rocks, but I didn't know what I was going to put there at first. I think I made her upper half too bright and sharp. The forehead and the arm, especially, yes? I think those areas are worse than the rest. I'm not entirely happy with her dress either, especially the bottom part.

I'm glad the water looks okay. That was something that took a while to figure out. I had trouble with the parts that weren't whitewater. I kept making the surface too light at first, then swung the other way and made it too dark so that it looked like the creek was a black void.

What gave it away was the bottom of the dress - it looks like it's floating above the ground. Too much separation. Overall, an excellent picture with or without the lady. Keep going the way you are. Your composition is excellent and your water is miles ahead of almost everyone else I've seen lately.

Such a nice picture. I really need to learn how to use Photoshop if this is what you get. I have such a hard time with trees, I don't know how you pulled together this forest even with a ref picture.

I love Zion! My Mom's Dad used to own a campsite their when she was little. But where is that? I don't recognize it....It's not red enough LOL.

It's the Upper Emerald Pool. :) And yeah, it's not as red as the rest of the park. I was so excited about going to Zion last year. I'd seen photos of it in various nature calendars, and I thought it was gorgeous.

This is gorgeous--the texture on the rocks is perfect and that little peek of the sky is lovely. The only thing I might suggest would be that the greenery is really *dense* and it might have been nice to see some light peeking through deeper in the forest to add some depth. It's kind of a toss-up though, because you'd loose that somewhat oppressive mood the very dark forest creates.

Hi clarion!

Hmm, yeah. I wanted it dense and secluded with no sky visible, but not to the point where it looks weird. Maybe I should have lightened the leaves and drawn more distinct tree trunks or some kind of clearing? It does look rather thick and bushy now that you mention it....
