Messing around with costume ideas again. I have no idea what the light balls are.

The usual, photoshop start to finish. No refs on this one. I'm not sure how long this took since I worked on it off and on between jobs. Wish I had time to paint more personal stuff, but this month's been kinda nutty.

..And should she follow, will she return?

The strap of the character in the foreground with the buckle hanging in front looks like a knee.

very nice...it says u used photoshop start to finish? Did ya draw it in photoshop 2? I knew some ppl who would draw it out then scan it...from there work on it in Photoshop.....just wondering.

Yeah, I draw directly in photoshop.

For lineart, it's easier to draw it and scan it in, IMO. But I've stopped doing line sketches so that I can do away with the scanning. (My scanner sucks.) I'll still sketch, but it's now with colored blobs and silhouettes instead of lines.

wow, I really like the concept of that guy, he looks scary but in an awesome way. Remember me of one of my characters for my book I probably never will finnish, thought I never could make him this cool looking.

this is cool...i also like the two characters interaction even though it isnt primarily with each other. the shadow around the blue guys feet makes him seem to be floating on the floor or water or ground. The background can be taken either way as if they are just entering the cave and the background is some type of forest that they are leaving to enter the cave. i hope you find this helpful. if you want the blue dude to be on solid ground, his shadows just need to be adjusted.

I'm glad the two characters work together. I was worried that I'd made them too different and they wouldn't seem like they were in the same picture together.

Yeah, been having trouble with his feet and the shadows. The blue veins of light are throwing me off. Adjusted it slightly, although I'm not sure if it helps any. But thanks for the suggestion.

As for the background, I wanted a cave that felt somewhat alive. Other than that, I don't mind if people want to interpret it in different ways. I actually like it when that happens.

Thanks for your comment. It was very helpful. :)

its a very engaging piece. it makes me wonder why they are they and where they are going. it gives us something to look at and something to think about: why are they going in the "cave", who are they exactly, do they work together or against each other, are they hunting or hiding? i have trouble with depth when i do my work also but i usually try to take it out all together in my artwork! if it aint there then it doesn't matter! i think to make the cave still really alive and "cave-ish" at the same time, you might want to put some of the blues of the "water/ground" up into it so that we can view the same light as the close up cave. the more light there is the more "open" it is and therefore gives a sense of not being closed like a cave usually is. or you could "detail" the light sources that are lighting the cave walls (lichen or fungus or whatever). hope this is helpful...

I will state this simply, this is one of your best. I'm not an artist, but this just works. The gentleman in the foreground is terrifying, and the expression on the damsel just makes you feel her fear. The design on the evil looking guy is fantastic...

Thanks! :) I'm glad it works for you. I hadn't actually planned on this one being a finished pic, so it's nice that people seem to feel that it came together well enough. It was originally just a costume sketch, but I wanted to give him a world to inhabit.

It really is too bad that people don't wear capes. They really are unbelievably awesome. I love the effects you put into this one, everything has its own texture and feel to it. The costumes look like something that the characters would wear, which obviously adds to the level of believability. I love the contrast of their clothes, the tattering at the ends, yeah. It looks great man, Keep it up! You're an inspiration to us all!
