Tomato Ninja by gyaban Tomato Ninja by gyaban
Self portrait. No clue why this idea came to my mind, but I sure enjoyed its creation!
The tomato is hanging on black wires that were deleted in post-production. However, I did not hang the tie as the resulting shape was not convincing enough, so I just re-shot the scene until I was satisfied with its position and movement. Took me about 500 tries ;)

Lights setup:
- 1 silver umbrella from bottom left
- 1 softbox from upper right, slightly behind the subject
- 1 flash + red gel on a black backdrop
- 1 flash on the tomato
- 1 flash on the knife's blade.

Something tells me that a big part of the 499 others must be worth looking at as well, for the "lolz" :)

I often put funny pics in my favourites. Partly because I like them. Partly because often other people don't. Comedy is a much art as any other endeavor.

You really construct and place all of your elements prior to taking the photo? Why do through all the trouble if you can achieve a similar result with photoshop (I'm not condemning I'm seriously curious as to where you get your inspiration and force from)

Very good question :) These shots were submitted to photo challenges where composites were forbidden. I also think that buildings setups "in real life" usually looks better than photoshopped ones, so I do it that way unless I can't do otherwise (when I want to create some kind of fantasy or surreal shot).
