Trial of Heath Layress - Verdict

1 Judge 1: After much deliberation, we have reached our verdict.

Judge 2: This was not an easy decision to reach. But as this was not a standard trial, neither will our verdict be

Judge 3: Heath Layress, you do not deny that you have committed the actions you are accused of. But claim you had no choice as it was the only option open to you

Heath: Yes, your honors.

Judge 1: On that, we agree with you

Both: What?

 

2 Judge 2: Starfleet is supposed to have a system in place to prevent such abuse as was outlined here from happening. You and your crew were failed by that system

Judge 3: All charges towards removing Captain Heath from her command are summarily dismissed

*Celebratory noises*

Judge 1: Order. We are far from finished

 

3 Judge 1: Admiral T'Shoak.

T'Shoak: Yes?

Judge 1: Despite your claims to the counter, we have seen substantial and sustained evidence of a personal grudge against captain Heath. 

Judge 2: Never before have we seen a gross abuse of power position and authority.

Judge 3: We would be within our rights to discharge you from service and send you to the place you had reserved for Captain Heath. However, we believe that you have lost your way and forgotten what it means to be a Starfleet officer. And shall give you a chance to redeem yourself

T'Shoak: Thank you, your honors.

Judge 1: It is therefore the judgement of the court that you be reduced in rank, with your current tainted service record expunged, and sent back to the academy to start over from the beginning.

T'Shoak: What?

Judge 2: Previously, there were those who helped you along the way to reach the rank of admiral far ahead of the rest of your class.

Judge 3: Maybe this time without their aid, the ethics and morality they instill in cadets will take hold in you.

Judge 2: You have something to say, Cadet?

T'Shoak: No, your honors

 

 

4 Judge 1: Now, we are led to believe that all this came about through an attempted act of friendship that went awry.

Judge 2: So, as a constant reminder to both parties as to remind them of what years of resentment lead to Cadet T'Shoak is to dye her hair blonde until she either regains her former rank or leaves service.

Judge 3: Conversely, Captain Heath is prohibited from dying her hair until the same criteria are met.

Heath: Your honors. Why am I included in that?

Judge 1: Because Captain, we are far from done with you

 

5 Judge 1: During our deliberations, new information came to light.

Judge 2: Such as the hook spiders that infest the Lexington are a genetic match to the ones you kept onboard the Los Lobos as “pets”.

Judge 3: Reports that the replicators onboard the Lexington were often reprogrammed to produce nothing but tube worms. All  after being in proximity to the Los Lobos

Judge 2: Shall we go on?

Heath: That... Won't be necessary, your honors

 

6 Sito: Prophets, can't she stay out of trouble?

Orca: Apparently not

Driagon: Think our investigation was a little too thorough

 

7 Judge 1: We are not unsympathetic Captain.

Judge 2: We see how you and your crew have been treated.

Judge 3: And it will be noted and enforced that anyone caught using the term "Barbie" to refer to you and your crew will be disciplined

Heath: Thank you, your honors,

Judge 1: You have shown that even those who would not be considered the norm for officers, still have a place in Starfleet.

Judge 2: They just needed the right Captain

Judge 3: One as unique as they are

 

8 Judge 1: Captain Heath.

Judge 2: It is the judgement that all orders and restrictions placed upon you and your crew by the former admiral are hereby revoked...

Heath: Thank you...

Judge 3: Except for the order for you to wear those boots

Heath: I... WHY?

Judge 1: Order.

Judge 2: Said order is to remain in effect for one years’ time. At which point you may appeal the decision. If there are no further incidents, the order will be lifted.

Judge 3: However, each new incident, will add six months to the duration

Lorrie: Six...

Naynta: We're doomed

 

9 Heath: May I ask why?

Judge 1:  As a reminder so that you learn to channel your anger in to more constructive and less destructive pursuits.

Heath:*softly*  Oh, you haven't seen anger yet...

Judge 2: What was that?

Heath: If we have to wear these then can we at least have different ones. Ones that are more comfortable and suited to wearing for long durations?

Judge 3: We have no problem with that.

Judge 1: With that, this court is adjourned.

Judge 2: By the way, admiral Janeway wishes to see you

 

10 Heath: After all that, the one thing I wanted to do... Sorry about that.

R’Shee: At least we're not being sent off to Tantalus

Aunlel: We'll try to do better

Heath: Don't make promises you can't keep. But, all of you, thanks

Sito: I'm just glad she's finally been dealt with

Orca: People like that make things harder for the rest of us

Ford: We still need to talk about that scratch on my hull

Heath: Take it up with her. That was all her doing.

Driagon: I'll talk to the shipyard and get the list of repairs the Los Lobos needs ready for you

Heath: Thanks. In the meantime, I suppose I should go see what the admiral wants.
