It was late and it was loud in the Fortress of Evening. This wasn't a surprising state of affairs, especially after a day like the one that had just passed. Just hours before, in the heart of the city, the combined forces of The Odds and their allies in the new Section P had clashed with and bested an army of sophisticated AUMs (androids-of-unknown-manufacture) that had swarmed the UN. It had been a chaotic scene, but the superteams had worked together smoothly, winning the day with no casualties and minimal property damage.
This was Consequence Burden's life now. And for the most part she really liked it.
After a prolonged, if understandable, adjustment period in which the young woman of the 19th century acclimated herself to the 21st, Quincy had not only reclaimed her role as the legendary masked vigilante The Phantom Pistoleer but, with her newfound powers of selective intangibility and extra-dimensional "side-stepping," had proven herself a valuable member of the team that had

"I just...well, I'll tell you, Jung-La, I couldn't believe my very eyes!"
It was a beautiful early evening in New York City, a surprisingly warm day finally cooling off as two members of the superteam called The Odds walked leisurely along the Upper West Side border of Central Park, as anonymous in their civilian identities as any pair of beautiful women in clingy spring dresses could be. They swung a couple of shopping bags in their hands, laughing brightly. The one with the untamed mane of blonde hair had been a small town sheriff in Tennessee before coming to the Big Apple to become the queen of the urban jungle. The lankier one with the long, chestnut-brown ponytail had been, up until a year ago, the most legendary masked crimefighter in the Old West. And, the night before, she had just viewed her first pornographic film.
"I mean, there she was," Quincy continue

She had faced many an opponent in her relatively few years, vile men and women, wild beasts and worse, but this morning she was confronted by a new and perplexing foe: the microwave.
"Sweet sarsaparilla!" Quincy Burden exclaimed as the metal box puffed acrid black smoke and her breakfast sparked and crackled behind the glass door. Not sure what to do, she was getting ready to throw water on the thing, when a lightning fast hand reached for the cord behind the box and yanked it free of the wall plug.
"That would have been an unfortunate idea," the petite Japanese woman to whom said hand belonged spoke in an even tone, "Water and electricity are a bad combination."
Quincy, dressed in her brand new flannel pajamas, set her glass down. "Right. Okay. That makes sense. But I got no idea why the fool box went up in smoke when all I was tryin' to do was make some of that magic oatmeal like the Captain showed me."
Taki was garbed in a s

Wow! In my many years of sporadic contributions to DA (mostly inspired by other creators’ OCs and universes) this is the first time I’ve ever been tagged (by that iconoclastic genius TheCosmicBeholder) in one of these here OC questionnaires. I feel weirdly honored and psyched! Let’s do it! Over to you, Ms. Burden...

1.- Hello, and welcome to 20 Questions with Fourth Wall Magazine! What is your real name and nickname?
Well, like the fella just said, I was christened Consequence Burden, but folks’ve pretty much always called me “Quincy.” I suspect you’re really asking about the nickname that goes with the mask. Some long-dead newspaper man dubbed me “The Phantom Pistoleer” and it stuck.

2.- Very nice to meet you, what is your current age?
Likewise. Well now, that’s an interesting question. Y’see, I was born in 1863 but, thanks to some Kapowapatchie magic, I spent some time...elsewhere. Bodywise, I’d say I’m about 27 or there’bouts.

3.- What is your alignment in the great never-ending battle of good and evil?
How’s that even a question? I may have done some hard and unpleasant things in the past, but always - always - in the service of what my heart and soul believes to be The Right.

4.- What is the origin of your powers?
The powers as you call ‘em, well they’re still kind of new. I started with nothing but a pair of my Daddy’s Colts, my horse Shade, and, later, my beloved partner Thirsty Faun At Morning. But something about my long, long, state of magical preservation in what I’m told to call “the ethereal plane” gave me the ability to actually become a phantom of sorts. I can pass through physical objects and, maybe more importantly, they can pass through me. It’s almost a reflex now.

5.- Fascinating! Now, superpowers and such aside, what do you feel is your greatest strength as a character?
Well, that smacks a mite of boastfulness and that’s not the way my folks raised me. I’ll say only that I always try my best and try to do right by others.

6.- Here's what may be a bizarre question: What kind of Universe do you exist in? Is it serious? Comical? Sexy? Noir? Horror?
Well, sir, I can only say that this world is exciting and strange and stimulating - sometimes a little too stimulating for a simple gal like me. But in between all that plum loco folderol, I’ve made wonderful friends, found a new home and a new love, and I wouldn’t trade it for any other universe.

7.- A lot of super-people have certain recurring elements of tragedy in their background. The readers would like to know if you do as well. For instance, are your parents still alive and/or did you come from a destroyed planet? Stuff like that.
I have heard that sorrow and woe stoke the furnace that forges the soul. I believe that’s true. And though I have lost everyone I once loved - to murder, to Time - I feel I have come through the fire a stronger person. I would rather not go into the details of these losses, but those tales are readily available here for anyone who wishes to know more of my life.

8.- Who made your costume?
Ha! Well, that all depends! My original Pistoleer duds were cobbled together by my own self back in the day but this new, rather “skimpified” version was whipped up by my friend and teammate Aideen. It took a little gettin’ used to, but she had a point about me not having to hide my gender anymore. I’d say it’s impossible to hide much of anything in this get-up!

9.- Do you have siblings?
I did. Let’s move on.

10.- What is your biggest fear/ worst nightmare?
I’ve pretty much already lived through that. Nowadays, I would say that it would be losing the woman that means the world to me, my partner Taki, but, honestly, I don’t worry about that much. Have you seen her in action?

11.- Are you a solo act, or part of a team?
That’s tricky. I began as a lone rider, then a duo with Thirsty Faun. But here in the now, I’ve got an embarrassment of friends and allies! Technically, I s’pose I’m part of the New Section P because, let’s face facts, I go where Taki goes. But we all have very close ties to Cap’n Evening and The Odds. Truth t’tell, I’ll go wherever I’m needed.

12.- Who is your worst enemy and why?
Do I need one? I suspect most followers of my old adventures would bring up that crazy, ex-Confederate maniac Deacon Bloodwine or the winged menace Th’ Buzzard but, honestly, my worst enemy is whoever is unwise enough to hurt an innocent in front of me.

13.- Huh, okay. interesting. Then, who is your best friend?
A hard one, mainly because of what I was just sayin’ about all the wonderful folks I’ve met since I was pulled back into the world. I absolutely adore Jung-la, my loco “urban jungle queen;” she was one of the first who pushed me out and forced me - in a fun way - to get to know the 21st century. But, that said, I’d have to say that it’s Centennia - an amazing woman and something like the sister I never had.

14.- Confession time; who is your lover?
I’d say that’s a fair sight presumptuous on your part...had I not already mentioned her here. Her name is Takako Yoshida, Taki to most and “Battle Angel” to the rest, and she is beautiful and still and fierce and she’s constantly singing a song without her voice - a song only I get to hear. That’s some fancy poetry, but it’s true an’ when you love somebody like this - somebody that quietly heals the part of you you thought was broken for good - well, there ain’t nothin’ wrong with poetry.

15.- Existential question: What would you do if you could ever meet your creator?
I’d ask some questions, you’d better believe it! But, mostly, I only pray He or She or It is pleased with me.

16.- What is your lifelong dream?
I didn’t have one for the longest time and I’m not fool enough to think a day will come when suddenly there’s no need for lawmen or peacekeepers. But I have started to think it would be nice if, sometime when we felt the world could get along without us, Taki and I could hang up our guns (an’ swords in her case) and make a real home. A place full of music.

17.- What would you do if your dream came true?
Smile? Plant a garden? Start puttin’ pictures of my lunch or my pet on the interweb? I don’t know.

18.- As a character, do you have any personal demons or overarching regrets that haunt you?
Only one. And as much as I love Taki and am lookin’ forward to a long life together, I will always regret that I couldn’t be there with Thirsty Faun; that she lived out her days grievin’ me.

19.-  What does your "secret identity" do for work?
Well now, that’s the thing - I don’t have to work, thanks to the generosity of Centennia and the Cap’n. But, if’n I ever got the itch to, I suppose I could take back up with teaching piano to folks like I used to back in Ghostwood.

20.- Last question, and it's a DOOZY for a super: What is the WEIRDEST thing that has happened to you?
Pretty much every day with the Odds an’ Section P threatens to invalidate this answer, but I’d have to say spendin’ over a century trapped in the ethereal plane with my body and soul separated but aware has got it all beat. Either that, or what I saw happenin’ in the communal showers just this mornin’...

Done! Now tag some people!
Make it extra fun and suggest specific OCs of theirs that you want to know more about!
HAVE FUN!

Oooh! Well, how about these likely suspects:

And there we go! I hope you folks enjoyed it. And feel free to check out the story "Gotcha" here in my gallery for some background on the "Hero Hour shitshow" mentioned in this article, as well as the galleries of both TheCosmicBeholder and cyberkitten01 for the art and comics that flesh out all the rest of the continuity I used to create this fictional interview.

Or just check their galleries out regardless, because they're creating a fun and slightly naughty world together that I'm happy to visit from time to time!

Centennia, Captain Perfect, Amanda Allen, Dr. Brain and The Odds all belong to TheCosmicBeholder

Kate Five, Ghede, Kimberly Jones, and Section P all belong to cyberkitten01

Claire Jones is a mutual creation of both gents.

And, lastly, Centennia's WWII-era boyfriend, The Mighty Yank, is my contribution
