The Variable Angel-Wing Engine System.
Originally a concept engine system designed to augment newtonian operation vessels with enhance agility, providing an expanding thrust field for higher output on a fully 360 degree rotating base.
The concept was conceived by Terra Industrial engineer Hiro Watanabe, when his design was implemented in the new Armadale Inquisitor and found to be unreliable, with major blank spots in its range of motions, Watanabe accused Terra Industrial of twisting the design and deviating from his plans.
Outraged, Watanabe took his design and left Terra Industrial, he was later picked up by the newly forming Japanese Emperial Colonies government and given the resources to perfect the VAES. Now 3 Months later his designs are cropping up in almost all JEC ships.
The JEC themselves have claimed rights to the design and after opposition from corporations within Terran space, also working on VAES style engines, the Novus Council gave the rights to the JEC and allowed any existing market ready ships with the Variable Angel-Wing Engine System to remain for sale, however further research or development of new ships with the system was made illegal for non JEC corporations.
The Variable Angel-Wing Engine System is now seen as the icon of the JEC, an Angel wing has become their sovereign logo along with the Japanese national flag. To this day Hiro Watanabe works happily as the head engineer and designer in the JEC company Empire Core.
