Diana Goes To School (Chapter 1)

It was the week before school started, and Diana Lombard was about to enrol at Spencer Grove High. “I can’t wait for school next week,” Diana said excitedly. “This school is the most academically diverse high school in town!” “I can hardly believe it myself, Diana,” her father, Dean said as he drove her to the school. “I just know they’re gonna love you there! Just a reminder, though: it’s gonna be a bit rocky in the beginning, since this is going to be your new school.” “Yeah, we all know the psychological pattern, Dad,” Diana laughed. Diana and Dean walked into the reception area where the students were to be enrolled. They walked up to the receptionist. “Hi, I’m Dean Lombard. I’m here to enrol my daughter, Diana,” They sat down and waited, then their surname was called out, “Lombard, Diana!” Principal Silverman reviewed Diana’s academic performance from her work from middle school and her pre-semester tests. “I’m impressed, Miss Lombard,” he said. “Your academic performance is one

Diana Goes To School (Chapter 4)

After lunch, Diana met up with Principal Silverman again, who was standing near the main office with a clipboard in hand and a warm, knowing smile on his face. “Ah, Diana! How's your first day shaping up?” he asked, tucking the clipboard under his arm. “It’s… actually going better than I thought, Principal Silverman,” she admitted, shifting her backpack onto one shoulder. “I found old friends and somehow survived the meeting with Mr. Black from AP Bio without fainting.” “Excellent!” Principal Silverman chuckled. “I’m hearing quite a few positive things about you already—Ms. Tran in the Chemistry Department mentioned you were the only one who attempted that extra credit question on the syllabus quiz.” Diana grinned, surprised. “I just really like learning.” “Which is why I wanted to talk to you,” he continued. “There’s a special opportunity I think you’d be perfect for. It’s not a club, not exactly—but more of an initiative we run here called The Grove Scholars.” Diana tilted her head.

The Last Book

The last book you read I imagine a little like your last breath when you don't know that you're dying just yet - maybe the last book you'll read will be one you know well, and read a good many times, breathing life into words by reading them, making letters, names, stories come alive - or maybe, the last book that you will read will be one you have not had the time to learn how to love; maybe it is difficult to love, with winding, confusing phrases and a tendency for the overly mysterious, or dramatic, and maybe it made you cry -the last book you read, will it be a special one? maybe a beloved's diary, or your own diary entries about that ...

Christy Brook: New Partner

“Christy Brook.” A man said as he emerged from the shadows, revealing himself to the reporter while she was being tied to the chair by two of his henchmen. The man had fair skin, was dressed in a navy-blue satin jacket with matching trousers, with a plain black T-shirt underneath and a pair of black shiny shoes. His black hair was gelled back. “This place will be your tomb.” He said mockingly to Christy as he was holding a time bomb in his hands. Looking at her captive, as he could see the reporter's tight purple sweater and form-fitting miniskirt had been torn up, exposing more of her skin to her captors. “As I'm going to blow this place sky high along with you by using this device.” Christy looked at him with a worried face as she felt the ropes being tied around her. She groaned in pain when one of the brutes cinched the ropes tightly around her wrists, making it difficult for her to move her arms. Her ankles also had the same treatment as they were tied tightly together, and the

Jay and Tala: Caught in the Mines.

Jay didn't move as soon as he saw the gun. His wife, Tala, screamed in fright and ran into the waiting arms of her husband. He clung to her fiercely. "Not another move, Sweeties, or it will be your last. The couple did as they told. A gun pointed can have that effect. They had descended into the Maltese mine earlier that morning. Dr Lola Alessi, a local archaeologist and close friend to Tala and knowing that Tala's husband loves a good mystery as inspiration for his novels, had pointed them in the direction of something she was exploring; The Vatican Vaults. And they were here on Malta. Jay had jumped at the opportunity and Tala didn't min...

Jay and Brady and The Wings of Balfyre

The shriek split the air like an angry bolt of lightening. Or so it seemed to Jay. He instantly sat up. All was still in the surrounding clearing. The only sounds were preaching birds and the calm sway of the tide gently caressing the beach. "Did you hear that? It sounded like a scream." A playfully frustrated groan rumbled next to him as Brady sat up on her knees. She made no attempt to cover her nakedness. Why would I, she thought. We are alone and I am having tonnes of fun. Her arms encircled Jay, pulling him closer to her. "Don't be getting ahead of yourself handsome. A few minutes more and you would have had me making all kinds of wil...

Quantum Wish Ch 14

Luckily, neither Shelly nor I needed to go anywhere in a hurry that night. We both slept through the night, and when we woke, our neighbors had already headed off, presumably in hopes of catching the ferry so they might make it to class, though I had no reason to question if they’d make it on time, despite the fact that today was Saturday. Nonetheless, I had been advised by several rangers in Windigo not to rely on assuming you’d make your appointments. What they did leave, however, was a web address in the dirt. Curious, I took a photo of the website - it had a Wisc.edu prefix and looked safe enough - so I vowed to check it out when I had internet before scratching over the markings in the event it was intended only for us. As Shelly went into the bay to get cleaned up, I fired up the camp stove and fixed breakfast. Heating the cast iron skillet along with our kettle for tea water, I added a package of cubed maple-flavored Spam and sautéed the meat with half a bag of potatoes

Quantum Wish Ch 13

To reach the High Falls, our route east took about ten minutes before approaching Ryden’s Border Store - a rather patriotic gas station with a very nice gift shop where we topped off the tank, checked on the tires and used the facilities. From there, it was less of a jump than a skip before coming just to the east where to the parking lot for the Grand Portage State Park had a Minnesota Welcome Center and a short trailhead to the falls. Though I brought the tripod and camera again, I didn’t bring any towels along, realizing very quickly that this area was indeed more popular. I could count almost a dozen cars in the parking lot. Still, Shelly had us head up the trail which was about a half mile and fairly level, though it took me about six minutes longer than it did her. Realizing quickly that we weren’t alone, however, I still took the time to set up the camera and take a few stills, including a bulb shot or two that gave me some good motion stills of the rolling water.
