COW: Zombie Dinosaur by GuthrieArtwork COW: Zombie Dinosaur by GuthrieArtwork

"Crowned Lizard"

Many believe that a meteor caused the death of dinosaurs, and a multitude of other species of animals, during the Cretaceous–Tertiary extinction event, but new technology has uncovered the truth. A virus now believed to have first appeared in the species Coronasaurus is believed to be the cause.

Coronasaurus were 39 foot long predators of the Cretaceous, towards the later half of the Cretaceous they contracted a highly contagious virus. Within a matter of days after contracting the virus the host's soft innards would be consumed and the creature would bleed to death. However, they did not stay dead, the virus would essentially restart the dinosaurs body so that it could continue to synonymously feed and transmit the virus.

After several weeks the dinosaur's rotting body would collapse in a festering pile unable to hunt for the virus any more. Many scavenging species were still able to contract the virus from infected carcasses. Relatively quickly the virus had spread around the world causing the mass extinction.

Question: if it's a zombie, why does it still have blood? Awesome though.

Wickedly awesome. The gaping hole in the ribs, the shredded skin on the neck, the lolling tongue, all such great details. Nice work!

ehh this is something i just noticed. Even in movies where dogs or some type of animal becomes a zombie, they go after humans. Yet you never see zombies eating animals.

But humans don't exist yet. So wouldn't the zombies do the same thing human zombies do? I mean hunt down and bite/eat other dino of the same kind?

Wow amazing art! The concept of a virus that takes over the dinosaurs brain until the dino can't move anymore is awesome and there are many viruses that affect insects in a similar way so it could be true but not likely. Away from that, it's an awesome piece of art. I love the tongue and the blood  along with the decaying flesh and red, demonic eyes.

i love this piece. it inspired a carcarodontosaur i called Charonatitan. it has the horns and protruding front teeth of its inspiration but that's where similarity ends. i remember reading that this was based off a pachycephalosaur and a carnotaurus but is it another breed entirely now? what i mean is, is the end result a tyrannosaur, carnotaur, or something else entirely?

Awesome concept and picture, its really cool. Whenever I think of Zombie viruses, I think of a certain fungus that infects ants, takes over their brain, and makes it so that the ants sit on the end of blades of grass so that they can be eaten by a herbivore and the fungus can continue its reproductive cycle.
GuthrieArtwork Featured By Owner Jan 30, 2012   Digital Artist
Thank you, hm sounds similar to Cordyceps which also make an insect climb to somewhere that will be a good place to spread their spores, but they effect more than ants and they do this just for dispersal over a large area and not to be eaten by another animal. There is actually a videogame supposedly based off of this brain fungus idea called "The Last of Us" it looks pretty cool based on the first trailer.
HeroesRain Featured By Owner Feb 7, 2012  Hobbyist General Artist
