commish for tom- no title by GunnerRomantic commish for tom- no title by GunnerRomantic
Commission for ~Hubby-N-Dad. Fifteen hours in Photoshop, experimenting with color and ignoring realism. Reference (Alaskan mountainside) used for the background.

Placing these "characters" in "my world" as requested was difficult because the nature of the settings in my head escape me. They change as my story gets revised and reformatted, although they're consistently empty, cold and full of isolated monsterpeople. I guess some of 'em feel alright, but happiness never comes without sacrifice.

This color palet is quiet and likable to look at.
The wings are very graceful.
My favorite part of the piece is the dark stone where they stand with the little skull. I think when I'll touch this rock it will be warm and heat my hands in this cold winter.

I very like your work. It's powerful and lonely, quiet and sad with the under the earth shacking.

magnificent artwork. i was wondering how long it took you to reach this level of artwork? im 14 now and just starting to mess around with the walcom tablet (regretably without any great successes) and would appreciate tips all the time. Ill best go check out ur tutorials,-- but sometimes its better if someone could just point out what you did wrong and how you'd be able to fix it. --ya know? i always drew on paper with a pencil or whatnot so the computer is a total different rialm for me. i still gotta figure out the brushes- how to sketches best- how to clean up the sketch- how to color. UGH. i have a long way ahead of me. But--> i think it will be worth it if it will measure up to even one quarter of what kind of artwork you create. YOU GO, GUNNERROMANTIC! :)
The *sighs* Newbie.

The first few gallery entries of mine are from when I was just turning 14. (I wish I'd been half as coherent as you are now back then...)

Judging from the sheer amount of personality and evidence-of-thought in the few things you have posted, I think you'll be producing some kickass stuff once you become more familiar with the technical aspects of your tools. Just keep doing what you like to do and do a lot of it. :D

extra also, you're awesome! The panel of your battle against rin and atanas where rmas was punted was one of my favorites of the entire tournament! I'm sad you withdrew but I'm glad you entered. I love your style, it is so beautiful!

Hey, quick question. Color seems pretty predictable once you learn that each shadow contains blue, a darker value of the local color, and the complement of the local color, but how did you know how dark to make the form shadows on the characters? Does that have something to do with the distance from the light source?

Er, I didn't. You can fudge these things so long as your end result is at least halfway decent.

Not distance, but the intensity of the lightsource itself and the number of direct/reflected sources of illumination.

Did her work just suddenly get twice as good in the past year for no apparent reason? What the hell? Awesome.

I found out recently that JP Targete's a grad of our school too, although he was there way back in the day when they still offered full-ride scholarships. Different era, but still. SVA powar. \m/

We need to meet up sometime so you can... like... steal my belongings and hold them hostage until I get you your sketch. I nagivated the city streets alone for the first time today and didn't die, so now I'm confident that I can do stuff in NYC with people. DUDE. MEET-UP. VERY POSSIBLE. HELLOOOOO

Seriously.

Let's get coffee or something.

It might be possible, but there's also a chance I would explode. On the other hand, I'm only $30 away from meeting you? : O
No really, that would be unbelievable because I may not go to SVA in a year, and I've always wanted to meet you. I'd go to NYC for that! Please talk to me on messenger! (awkwardlyunusual)

How did I start thinking you were an incoming freshman? Cripes... and East Islip is far away indeed. I think spending that much money on my account, ever, is illegal in at least a few countries including this one. D:

Nope, I'm an incoming senior to high school. I don't mind at all. The train station is even on my block! Would you still like to set up a date and time for a meet-up at SVA? I'd enjoy that supremely.

Lovely work as always! One question though- how did you get the top of the mountain to look so naturally misty? Did you use a layer, a specific kind of brush, or.....? (When I try to do mist, it looks like paint blobs everywhere, so just curious)

Looks like I used and faded a Photoshop wave distortion effect on some randomly painted clouds. *nanya posted a tutorial years ago on the method; I still find it effective.

This is an extremely amazing piece. No, amazing doesn't cut it. I wish I could make something even a tenth of this quality. I can not paint to save a small third world country. Jeez. The detail is amazing. You did a fantastic job, to say the least.

It's very beautiful! :) The characters, the mountain - even the rock caught my eye with it's excellent quality! The shape of the wings is quite unique I find, and I think you pulled it off exceedingly well! And although it's a bit morbid (what with the skull), the mood it created (well at least when I gazed on it) was quite peaceful with the mountains, and pride in the stance of the characters. Wonderful! :+fav:
