Redrawing old characters- Fur and Cutie

Description

This is a new series I wanted to experiment with, taking old characters I haven't drawn in years and re-interpreting them in my modern style. The first two characters I've redrawn are a cat and dog duo named... Fur and Cutie. Yeah, I'm kinda embarrassed by those names, but these were characters I made way back in elementary school over 25 years ago. My memory is hazy, but I think I created Fur for a school project where the students made their own species. Instead of doing something creative, I just drew a cat character and called it a "kitter litter," some sort of different species that just looked like cats on Earth. Yeah, I'm kind of embarrassed by that too, making a cat species with a name that sounds almost like kitty litter. The name Fur was actually suggested by my 4/5th grade teacher, which I didn't remember until I found a journal from elementary school where I recorded the origin of Fur's name. So Fur being the name of this cat character wasn't actually my fault lol. I don't recall how I made Cutie. I probably just thought a cat character should have a dog companion too. Fur and Cutie would be incorporated into my guinea pig comics, with Fur becoming a pet belonging to my main guinea pig characters Cinnamon and Midnight (Domino didn't join my comics until later in middle school), and Cutie belonged to a nearby neighbor. Fur was a trouble maker and a big eater, based on this panel where he has a gigantic pile of cat food (obviously an influence from Garfield). Cutie was just a dog companion and wasn't really developed. I probably stopped drawing these characters because I just lost interest in them, and since my characters are anthro animals, owning cats and dogs as pets wouldn't make much sense. If I were to re-introduce them, I'd probably re-interpret the "Kitter Litters" as a gang or club of stray animals that Fur is part of, and Cutie is his sidekick. The overly simple names could either be their codenames, or names they adopted to hide their tough guy personalities. I found one old drawing of Fur where I colored him with grey colored pencil, so I made him a grey cat in my modern drawing. I don't think I have any colored drawings of Cutie, so I just made him a brown dog with a color hue that should be different from my other canine characters.

*For the curious, the panels of Fur and Cutie on the left come from a storyline I did with a friend in elementary school in which Midnight the guinea pig builds a shrinking/enlarging ray (most likely taking inspiration from the movie Honey I Shrunk the Kids), and Cinnamon messes with it and causes it to fire at random. A stray shot hits Fur, shrinking him down. Fur needs the ray gun to grow back to his regular size, however Midnight takes the device with him to the airport to show it off at a science fair in Tokyo. Fur asks Cutie to help him reach the airport before Midnight leaves. Cutie rushes through the airport to get past security, and Cutie is able to reach the shrinking/enlarging ray in time, but accidentally grows himself to be as big as the Earth. The comic ends with Fur waking up from a dream and realizing he had never been shrunk, but then goes back to bed in fear when he hears Midnight say he finished building his shrinking/enlarging ray for real. Would I ever remake this story? Probably not. It's just too strange, and having it be a dream in the end was a cop out. I'd rather have the characters be more grounded with Fur and Cutie being troublemakers on the streets.
