These original characters play a crucial role in my latest, time-consuming original story (which I plan to release through a comic book series and a series of graphic novels): currently titled the IN LAK'ECH Mythos. claims to have been a 15th/16th Century Mexica warrior, but in fact may have been an evel older 10th Century Toltec military leader.

IAN R. / OMEPAYNAL is a 27 years old Brazilian journalist who during 20th October 2008 was working on a story about the cases of murder and property destruction all across Brazil which recent international investigations linked to a mysterious inhuman, super-fast reptile creature who claims to be Cuetzpalin Paynal - "one of the many Cuetzpalin who inhabited earth among the humans at the time of the pre-hispanic Mexica". Cuetzpalin Paynal has targeted slaughterhouses, fisheries, industrial projects, farms fur farms, hunter lodges and many establishments related to the industry of animal exploitation (a.k.a fishing, meat, egg, dairy industries, not to mention those related to breeding animals for animal testing, fur, clothing, zoos and other parks), killing workers, releasing the animals and in some occasions transporting them to other sanctuaries (places legally run by NGOs or independent groups, that in some occasions, after being identified by authorities as the destination of the rescued animals, has been regarded as criminal organizations backing Paynal's actions. This led several of them to refuse Paynal's delivery of rescued animals, even denouncing Paynal to authorities, what Paynal regarded as a coward betrayal in the face of actions towards Animal Liberation).
Paynal's actions have affected Ian's daily life as it also affected the Landless Workers' Movement which Ian use to support through his work: Paynal has approached some indigenous tribes and their respective leaderships, in some occasions amicably and others threateningly, in order to form a trained militia to defend their lands from the intrusion of bounty hunters and State security, to defend their traditional semi-nomadic lifestyle and resist against the industrial civilization.

The symbiotic interaction between Ichtaca's Tonalcoatl and Ian R. transforms him into the Cuetzpalin Omepaynal.


Ichtaca claims to have been one of many that has bravely fought for Mexico and Tenochtitlán against the spanish invaders in 1520. Moctezuma and Macoel, after their meeting in 1520, wouldn't question this, as wouldn't their hosts (Moctezuma isn't supposed to know the name of his every soldier, right?!). He claims to have been young by the time. But someone else might know that several of "Ichtaca"s features are common to an even older figure, a 10th Century a.c Toltec military leader from Tollan, a general whose name is Axayacatl, and who was born in 920, a time when the Toltecs fought what remained of several post-Classic Mayan Kingdoms, including that of Zama (nowadays Tulum). Like the fierce Mexica that would claim their descent, the Toltecs were war-like, but as they reached closer to the end of the Fourth Sun Era (that in the IN LAK'ECH Mythos was ruled by Tlaloc, the rain god and ended in the 11th Century, when he destroyed the city of Tollan because of their atheistic, disbelieving, unfaithful and immoral ways, especially those of their last ruler, the snake-like Acxitl), several values were discarded as new ones rose - self-preservation, in a time of aggravated misery and lack of resources, which led to brutality and more misery. Axayacatl has become a soldier rapidly in this post-catastrophe world (the catastrophe that wiped out former metropolis like Teotihuacan and Classic Mayan cities still affected the Toltecs), but he always preferred to rule than to be ruled, and put his mark rather than being marked. A soldier in a sense, but not in another - obedience only when convenient, and if he has a chance to backstab, he wouldn't lose it. Axayacatl's story is as large as his lifetime, of course, and from 920 up to 2008 there's an awful lot to tell. Unlike the previous figures, his works have benefited way more than just one empire (the Excan Tlahtoloyan), from Tollan to an accident in time and space he and a pack of some hundred Toltecs and less mayans, humans and Cuetzpalin alike, arrived in the northern european seas, where they met the New Asgardians, a pack of norsemen led by a self-proclaimed king Týr who wanted to rebel against the Jötunn from Nifelheimr, who enslaved their past generations with sacrifices and tributes, as if those of the Roman Empire weren't enough. That was at the beginning of the 11th Century. Axayacatl, of course, held no longer his titles in this land, and in no time his choices in this new life (that started with planning a return, but being frustrated and unable to make it) would put his selfishness in second plan, and the heroism of his younger fellow Cuauhtemoc in first, according to some foreigners they met after they defeated the Jötunn and passed through the southwestern barriers, meeting the Banteran tribe (in the IN LAK'ECH Mythos, communities that existed before the Roman Empire that are some ancestors to the nowadays Basque people). For thirty years these Toltecs have co-existed with the Banterans, met their outlandish guardians - the Basajaun and the Elves, unable to see threats on the horizon (a planned revenge of the Jötunn, or rather of Hel, keeper of those enslaved by the first, and also the rise of a secret order of international mages from key positions in Europe, the Palarokhian Order, that also counted with help of some dragons). Their greatest threat, however, was the ambition of one of their own - Axayacatl had just sold them to the Palarokhians. After an epic conflict in 1070, Axayacatl would become Cuauhtemoc's definitive enemy. Those who remained from the Banterans and Toltecs moved southeast, reaching northern France. A group split and moved another way, towards Sweden, where they'd breed Cuetzpalin hybrids known as trolls. As for Axayacatl, he just started a new life - as a professional bounty hunter, contacted by a secret organization of specialized thieves, counting with figures such as the millennial Autolycus. Bad company. But is Ichtaca really Axayacatl? Cuauhtemoc hopes it's not, and Ichtaca's own ways make it way different from Axayacatl. But then, Cuauhtemoc hasn't seen his nemesis for years, since they fought in the spanish civil war - yes, you heard that right.


Amidst this media tension, in November 20th, a 27 years old Brazilian journalist named Ian Ribeiro, based in Cuiabá, capital of the state of Mato Grosso, has found the Tonalcoatl of Ichtaca, yet another ancient Cuetzpalin, who has claimed to have been a Mexica warrior who fought at the siege of Tenochtitlán in 1520. His weapon, an unique green-looking macuahuitl with a somewhat modern design and well preserved obsidian blades, was found in the same cave Ian stumbled upon just after covering the rising tension between an organization of local landless workers and northern indigenous groups - a conflict set up by local authorities to divert each one's objectives. Ian was used to register the struggle of the landless workers for a while, and his life near theirs has always put him and his observations in favor of their rights in owning lands which they work him, something easily labeled by most mass media journals as socialist, left-wing and so on, on a derogatory note. For this reason, Ian has been working for more independent media, the problem being it wasn't actually that independent - several of its owners reflect positions supportive to a traditionally "centre-left" party, the Workers' Party, or some other less influential allies that have increased their position in the Brazilian government since the last decade, and since then have only followed the neoliberal tendencies of privatizations, of the public services' degradation by the lack of investments in national education, industry, and also doing nothing towards the land reform that were always on their candidates' advertisements during elections. Ian grew weary of their seemingly unbreakable influence and formation of opinion not only among the journal he worked for, but also among most of the organized land reform and class struggle militants he met. As Paynal's actions have only gathered hate and negative attention towards him, making conservatives and progressists agree on how blatantly inhumane and merciless his actions were, and how his beliefs couldn't possibly justify those acts (actually showing how hypocritical they were on their own, for that's exactly all they do or have someone else paid to do with the non-human animals and the humans they treat as inferiors, just as slaves, indigenous peoples, the miserably poor, hungry and thirsty, and others at the margin of a capitalist society), Ian has been called to work on Paynal's case. Good for him, he seemed to have found a secret about Paynal - if through Ichtaca Ian had just become a Cuetzpalin himself, Paynal was likely someone who found a Tonalcoatl of another Cuetzpalin and then transformed into Paynal. Using Paynal's name, this new Cuetzpalin (whose enhanced regeneration factor is something he didn't know to be a super power, at first believing it was common to other Cuetzpalin from Ichtaca's time) has earned some support from a rebel cell within the landless workers, and before he could plan a way to attract Paynal's attention (what he did already, but Paynal wasn't able to meet him just as soon as he expected, for he was fighting elsewhere), he fell, alongside Paynal, in a trap set by a traditional landlord who had just lost several of his puppets within Brazil's senate, thanks to Paynal's bloody actions. Setting their differencies aside, the two Paynal identified their actual enemy, and while the later Paynal preferred to take him into custody for interrogation, the younger one couldn't control his anger and just killed the bastard. Either way, despite in a less than ideal occasion, the two Paynals met, and their anihilation of the land owners in the area has made a new day rise for the populations exploited by those cretins, what earned the trust of some young generations of indigenous that have known nothing else than hunger, misery and mistreatment from the city-dwellers, and old ones who were already used to working under terrible conditions to people that only gave them a miserable god to believe in and a piece of bread that couldn't cease their hunger. Thus was christened "OMEPAYNAL" (from the nahuatl "Two Fast"), who still criticized Paynal's methods (that made no distinction of class for his victims), albeit he acknowledged the usefulness of his speed power against the corrupt governors with a neoliberal agenda.
