About the artist

30 years ago Marcus decided to turn his passion into a profession and took the opportunity to become a freelance photographer, graphic designer and even tattoo artist. Today he lives and works as a freelance media designer in Berlin-Mitte.

With his imaginative silhouette photography, Marcus has published a highly creative and especially personal project that allows us a deep look into the warm soul of the urban artist. Fantastic figures, fairytale stories and dreamlike landscapes await us if we embark on the colorful worlds that this extraordinary artist has created for us.

Despite the variety of motives one notices immediately that all pictures come from the same universe, were not only made with the same technique and care, but spring from the same soul.

Marcus has managed to push the boundaries of traditional paper cutting craft using the latest technology. He creates the images using multilayer paper technology, whereby a single one can consist of up to 18 levels. The motif of each layer is created individually and cut out by hand. Afterwards the levels are processed into three-dimensional showcases, so-called dioramas, which are professionally illuminated then, photographed and digitally optimized.

If one asks the artist how he himself would describe his pictures, he answers in his own way soul-deep emotionally yet so pragmatically minimalist with „beautiful". What at first seems almost demeaning short comes along at the very core of what constitutes Marcus Wächter's work: it is the concentration of beauty that turns his images into an intoxicating experience.

The harmonious interplay of colors and shapes seduces our eyes from the first moment and warms our soul, so that it is not difficult to dive in and listen to the melody that seems to be waiting for us behind the screen. In the middle of the gray urban jungle, Marcus Wächter has created a fantastic world in which he lets us partake now.
