Clara could hear the stomps coming down the hall. Her roommate's steps were punctuated by the occasional struggle with a doorway and they were coming her way. Her footfalls were much heavier and Clara's guilt was mounting. Clara was growing tired of her roommate Eva. The two of them got along well at first, which was pretty impressive for just a couple of people desperate to move out of their previous homes that connected on Craigslist. The types of people roaming on there nowadays, they could have each found their own personal serial killer who never comes up with the rent. But Eva had a habit of telling little white lies here and there, especially around things that had to be done in the apartment. Dishes, laundry, bills, you name it, there was always something. Clara had tried to keep track of them on her phone so she could show Eva, but Eva would always bounce back and accuse her of being a real hard-ass.
