Ah, the time for the New Year's resolutions.  It has been quite some time since I've indulged in this particular practice as I do not have a very good track record in keeping them and find it better to avoid the disappointment of breaking them by simply not making them in the first place.  However after some reflection I think, perhaps, I was mistaken.  That it is better to have set goals and risk not achieving them, than to wander through the year listlessly without some standard to measure yourself against.  That it is not in the succeeding, it is in the striving, and that failure does not mean you should stop, pack it up, and go home, beca

It occurred to me that with the coming year, it will finally feel as though we're living in the future not unlike some science fiction movie.  So what is the signifier of this sudden transition to the future times?  It's all in the way we say it.  Up until now the 2000's have have been two thousand and... 2009 = two thousand and nine However come the new year it will be twenty ten.  You can already hear them saying it on the news.  It is only a matter of time before we find ourselves tangled in the plot of some dystopian sci-fi novel.
