Happy Birthday Virtan !

Inspired by Elric of Melniboné

He is described by his creator, in the first book, Elric of Melniboné, as follows:

"It is the colour of a bleached skull, his flesh; and the long hair which flows below his shoulders is milk-white. From the tapering, beautiful head stare two slanting eyes, crimson and moody "

:D
Not a real fan, i just saw a stunning artwork on Artstation and inspired me to try.
I did read bits and pieces just to get the essence, but i can't claim to be a fan.

I might attempt another portrayal, after all this is quite old.

I don't think i will ever model the sword, it's been almost 20 years since i modeled something in 3D and right now i don't feel i have the nerve, specially for one rather complex like this one.
But who knows, maybe my muse goes crazy making me venturing again in modeling ;)

Thank you so much for your kind words, happy you liked this humble portrayal :happybounce:

You are most welcome!!

Ahh...... maybe at some point!! =) I think Brom has done some of the covers for the books ....... but can't remember. Your work kind of reminds me some of his.

No Worries on that!! LOL but if you decide to give me a holler! Really like the blade!

Wait...the blade in this artwork exists already, not made by me though:

The blade is part of the set. :)

If one day i will find the nerve to model again though, trust me, you will know, i'll bake a lot of noise. :XD:

Thank you very much for the honorable comparison, i am not sure if i am that talented, but is nice to hear. :D

Awesome, one of my favorite, underappreciated characters

I do agree. :)
Besides, his saga is quite huge and the novels are re-printed quite often.
Probably Elric is appreciated, but not mainstream like other characters.

Thank you so much for your words, always appreciated. :dummy:

I think you're right.
After so many years a lot of recent fan arts can be found, this is quite heart warming. :)

He is such a "drawable" character, and a break from the Lord of the Rings look-alikes at the time, actually one of the first characters i drew from book inspiration... if i find any of those drawings i'll show you

I hope you'll find those drawings.
Will be nice to see them published and, more important, is nice to retrieve a treasure. :)

I have to retrieve all of them as well, i wonder if a lifetime will be enought to do all i would like to do. :XD:

Thank you for your words!

I own most of them as collections, but what I would really like would be the original books with that gorgeous cover art! I have never found them in second-hand shops, though. Second-hand shops are not as good as they used to be. Everyone wants to make lots of money on eBay these days. :(

Well, not sure if the UK is the right place, maybe London could have some shops for collectionists, but not for cheap.
Considering the fact that the first editions are from the '60s, to a degree they are worthy of the price.

I would suggest, if you have the chance, Milan has very good comic/book stores, second hand and new ones, foreign languages too.
Unfortunately most of them don'r deliver abroad, but next time you visit Milan, let me know and i see if i can get you the addresses, in the meantime, take a look here: bookshop.blackwell.co.uk/jsp/w…. I hope it helps.

Thank you for the pointer. I will let you know next time I go to Milan! I enjoy browsing second-hand shops, when their prices are reasonable. It seems there are fewer and fewer of those these days. Even common old paperbacks are being sold on the web for several pounds these days, when they used to be 50p in a second-hand shop!

Also, if in autumn you pay a visit in Cornwall, where i live, there are several second hand shops. They don't have so many comics, but about books, vinils and movies, i find often proper gems for 1-3 £.
Some editions can be a century old. ;)

I do agree with your point, unfortunately, people that like collections because they have enought intelligence to recognize treasures, are the favorite targets for the market.
That's why the prices are so hight. :(

I am going to Prague this autumn rather than Cornwall, but maybe next year... There are still a few nice secondhand shops, but even in those I do not tend to find old sci fi and fantasy paperbacks. Those all seem to have found their way online. It is probably as you say: collectors want those sorts of books and so the sellers target them with high prices. If only everything was not about making money!
