The City of Megaville!
From a distance, it looked like a colony of lights, all different colours, merging into a collage of glistening balls of glow, some white, some yellow, some red and some other colours, all blanketing the land surrounded by the Basin Mountains. Some of the lights flickered. Others pulsed. And others burned brightly, drowning out the glow from smaller buildings around them. Even the bridges were lit up this evening, as well as the aircraft flying in and out. Megaville was huge, described by its Mayor and a Ultracity. It was ever-growing, expanding at a rate of 21 acres a year. Situated on the Western Seaboard, Megaville
Blossom took a refreshing gasp of air as the hot water splashed across her face from her cupped hands. She rubbed her cheeks, soft skin upon soft skin. The air was humid. Comfortable and homely. She at last felt truly comfortable as she reached for a fluffy pink towel and dabbed her face dry. Another towel, just as pink and just as fluffy, was wrapped into a makeshift turban upon her head. Clumps of drying chestnut hair poked out between the folds. She closed her eyes and tilted backward, holding onto the edges of the bathroom sink.
She took in the near-silence for a moment. The faucet dripped, so quiet that normal ears wouldn't ev
Dexter thrashed. His knee caught Drax in the back and knocked him off balance. Dexter sucked in an invaluable gasp of air before Drax's robotic hand clamped back down on his windpipe. Dexter gurgled uselessly, blood bubbling from his nostrils.
Drax hadn't lost his maniacal grin, "One hand! That's all I need to end you, Dexter. Vengeance for my plan in ruins." Dexter's face was beginning to turn blue under the crushing iron claw. Drax bent down to the boy's face, "Be silent," he told him "you haven't won here. Let me show you."
Drax's other hand came to his sleek black forearm, grasping it in such a way that he only needed to pull gently to
Hazy light came to Dexter's eyes. His whole body was numb, as though floating in cloud. The sound in his ears echoed distantly, never quite managing to make sense. And there she was. He blinked, hoping his vision would clear. It wouldn't. His arm wouldn't move as he tried to check if his glasses were on straight. She approached and he could hear her voice. He tried to call back to his angel in the clouds.
"Blossom...!" he tried to shout, but his voice was a faraway murmur.
Still she drew closer, her chestnut hair ringed by the glaring white light, her face in silhouette. Her voice grew stronger; nearer. She was calling his name. Her hand wa
Drax had the posture of a lazy bystander, leaning against the central spine of his grand machine as it bombarded the world below with its jamming transmission and scooped up any monetary resource it could find in data form. Beneath it the portal surged and flashed but remained steady, held open by the three arms reaching sideways and suspending the spherical quantum anchors above its maw, forcing it wide enough for his masterful invention to exist in two worlds at once. His arms were folded, his body relaxed. His black leather longcoat danced around his feet. He was watching Blossom, his sole audience member. She was slumped against the solid
There’s a question I’ve been meaning to regarding Grim Tales, something that the current writing has made so inconsistent that I, and possibly many readers have got lost on that. What exactly is Junior’s Nergal? In the first chapters, it seemed liked it was just Jr’s new demonic powers that had gone Wacko-Jacko and merged with the Pumpkinator. In What About Mimi, some characters and even Jr. referred to it as a “parasite”, does that mean Minnie was never half Nergal, but born with one inside of her? I don’t recall the powers being symbiotes in the original billy and Mandy show. Current chapters have made it clear the nergal is a character, not just part of Jr or Minnie. So what was it supposed to be, in the original plan?
It was originally a parasite, a sentient being fused with the main character and lending its power. The earlier chapters made it clear that the Nergal is a survivalist, transferring its essence from host to host if the original one dies. But its dilemma came from the fact its ORIGINAL host was resurrected and maintained some sort of limited control over it.
It was not explored (or even well understood) by the new editor but the plan had been to show that the Nergal was the one creating antagonism between the two siblings, gradually ramping up the anger and resentment between them in order to spur an inevitable clash in which they'd essentially destroy each other, leaving him as the only real survivor and now the master of his own destiny. It would have been up to Junior to determine he was being played, and put the Nergal in its place - or at least show it that life isn't just the endless slavery to the two hosts he thought it would be.
Nowadays it's just buddy cop jokes and visual gags with no real punch, setup or meaning. The deeper character aspects of the Nergal and its role in the story are totally gone.
Ah, I see, thanks for clarifying that. Is having a Nergal Symbiote a Characteristic of all hybrid Nergalings? Does Nergal Jr. also have his own “Nergal”? Because Nergal Senior didn’t appear to have a sentient being bonded to him, I assumed it’s because he was a pure-blooded nergaling.
The Nergal is its own creature, the parasite doesn't have a further parasite. All half-blood (or lesser) Nergals carry the parasite and the species seems to be thinned to the point of near-extinction. That's why they adapt and survive by passing from host to host. Their powers become the driving force in the next host's life. And any host that has a parasite will create more part-Nergal offspring without fail. Nergal Sr is a full-blood Nergal. His son and downward are the ones with symbiotes since they, in this case, got it on with Human women.
Ok, I understand, just two last questions, whom does the power essentially belong to? The host/master (Junior/Minnie) or the Nergal Symbiote? Like, I know the Symbiote is the source of it, but who does uttermost own it? And why did you guys modify the Nergal powers as to how they originally were in Grim Advetures of Billy and Mandy? (Sorry, for bothering, I’m just really interest on the original ideas).
It's primarily the host but Minnie holds a bit of remnant power. This is because, under normal circumstances, after giving the eye away the host usually doesn't come BACK again. This double-masters stuff is the reason the Nergal is in fear of its existence and would want to turn the two against each other. Then he becomes his OWN master.
I'll admit I've not seen much of the original show, but I do know we linked the Nergal from that show to the vastly ancient Nergal from the Hellboy mythos. So there's all kinds of demonic power manifesting in those creatures. Also, since nobody was really shown as a half-breed except Nergal Jr and he didn't feature too much, we went our own way with how the Nergal propagated and differentiated from the show - essentially we made something fully new. That being said, he continued to change after I left the team, and he's now almost nothing like the beast he used to be.
