Description

Being all wet and thrown in the fountain is not enough to faze the Jester's good mood ...

This is the second installment in the No Frowns in Misery series, featuring my Jester-girl in wet and unpleasant circumstances -- yet not losing her good mood.

All done in MyPaint and GIMP to and fro over summer. Lots of practice making water and wetness here. Feedback and comments are appreciated as always!

There's a world of improvement between this and the original No Frowns in Misery. In contrast, this image looks much more solid.

Your work on wet surfaces and water has really paid off. The highlights in the water, and the wet cloth both look quite realistic.

The stones are similarly realistic and solid.

Where I feel that you missed the boat is on the emotional impact. She doesn't look (to me) like she's happy or even putting a brave face on being soaked. She looks like she's scared to me. I don't feel like her smile reaches her eyes. In addition, her shoulders are hunched toward each other and she's turning her body away from the viewer. Perhaps like she's trying to placate someone.

Something about her face in this one also makes her look a bit simpleminded to me, too, which adds to the "victim" feel.
