Switched to the foreward cam because all the work was on the wings/weapon pod sections. They're done now, and missle
tubes on the wing are loaded. She has teeth. <Evil Grin> Just a few nurnies and plate on the tp and sides left. Then it's on
to underneath, which has MUCHO detail.
She is really coming along quite fine!
It's strange that considering the fact that Earth had the Hawk, they must have assumed the possibility of life elsewhere in the universe. But, they never stationed any of them on the base- a place that would have been Earth's last- or first- line of defense. If they hadn't considered the possibility of life elsewhere, then who was the Hawk supposed to defend against or fight against?
From Wikipedia: "The international pooling of technical skill and resources after the War of 1987 resulted in the advanced construction of Moonbase Alpha." Don't know how canon that is, but it suggests that by 1999, Earth had learned to exist in a united form. The laser barriers could be to keep terrorists out that aren't happy with the united idea. But, again, this leaves the existence of the Hawk as a question- unless it's older than the Eagle and dates from that 1987 conflict.
I've heard it said that Space 1999 was from the same story line as UFO, and that the hawks were designed to replace the original interceptors.
Don't know how true that is, but it kinda makes sense. Another story was that there was to be another season of UFO, and the Hawks were
the new Interceptors for the moonbase to replace the old ones, but it never happened, so they used a ready made model for 'War Games'.
I always thought that the Hawk was made for another show because she's incredibly detailed for the short stint on Space 1999. ^_-
Other than still photos, I know nothing about UFO so I can't say one way or another. But that would be no different than the original Battlestar Galactica re-using the argo-ship from "Silent Running".
In the original episodes before blasting out of Earths obit. There seemed to be some sort of tension on Earth. That would explain the laser barriers around the waste fields and the defense turrets around the base. Though those could be explained away as anti asteroid emplacements.
Anything in the blueprints that would suggest where the pilot or pilots board the Hawk? She's absolutely stunning by the way.
Yes, there's a hatch underneath that looks like a slightly smaller version of the door on the Eagle's passenger module. I saw a pic of a lovely real model of the Hawk
and The artist had built some kind the stand for her, like a mag rail or something. I'm going to try and build that too, though the Hawk model covered much of it so I'll
need to improvise. I wanted to do landing gear, but I'm not sure there's enough room since she was designed to operate from Centauri (sp?) Station. I'll try the mag
mounting rail anyway, as it looked really cool. If I can, I'll do interior spaces in the hawk so you have room to put things. The eagle was easier due to its modular
design. The hawk is much tougher, but I'm having fun anyway. ^_-
