We were young,
and drinking in
the park, there
was nowhere else
to go. And you
said you always
had my back, oh
but how were we
to know that
these are the days
that bind you
forever? And these
define you forever,
Two young children, around the age of six, sit on the swings in their favorite park, drinking Capri Suns as they talk without a care in the world. One of them is a boy, with dirty blond hair and startling blue eyes. The other is a girl, with (h/l), (h/c) hair and (e/c) eyes. They smile and laugh, showing their obviously strong bond of friendship to the world. The girl turns to boy, asking,
"Hey Link?" Link faces her, taking a sip of his drink before answering.
"Yeah (Y/n)?" She stares up into the sky, asking,
"Do you think we'll be friends forever?" Link grins.
"Of course~! I'll always protect you!" She looks back at him again, holding out her pinkie.
"Pinkie promise?" He interlocks his pinkie with hers, grasping it tightly.
"Pinkie promise," he agrees. (Y/n) smiles, tightening the grip before letting go. Her faith renewed in him, she takes a hold of his hand before carrying on the conversation.
~*Timeskip of Ten Years*~
(Y/n) glares at the crowded table full of the 'popular people'. Not at all of them, since one is her friend, but she's mostly glaring at certain boy sitting there. It isn't long before someone pulls the hood of her black hoodie. She shifts her glare to a white-haired boy, dressed in similar, black attire as hers. He smirks, sitting down next to her.
"Is someone having a bad day~?" She huffs, playfully flicking him in the nose.
"Shut your hole, Ghi. At least I don't leave you alone at the lunch table." Ghi puts on a hurt look.
"I would never abandon you!" He exclaims jokingly. Even though she knows he's kidding, she can't help but force herself not to flinch.
'Where have I heard that before?' she thinks venomously. Soon enough, her other friends Midna, Dark, and Malon join her. Malon punches Ghi's shoulder.
"You stole my spot!" Ghirahim flips his hair out of his nearly black eyes.
"(Y/n)'s right side only belongs to those fabulous enough to claim it~." Midna smirks.
"And her left side belongs to royalty~." As Malon and Ghi start to argue, Midna pulls you away from them a bit, asking, "Are you glaring at the glorified hero again?"
You see, sitting at the table are the popular kids, which we already know, there is one person who (Y/n) absolutely can't stand...and that is Link.
She hates him. She hates the way that he laughs with his dream girl, Zelda. She hates the way he can make friends with people so easily, like a girl named Navi and Ghi's freshman cousin, Fi. And she absolutely hates the way he abandoned her the first chance he got, during the sixth grade. He forgot about her as soon as he could, and she's still broken from it. She still has trouble trusting others, while he sees life through rose-shaded glasses. The only connection she has to his group of friends is one of her own, Emma, and she had to work extra hard because of her friendship with Link.
(Y/n) sighs. "Another day, another glare, I guess." Midna shakes her head.
"Maybe you should focus on your friends instead of trying to send negative energy to a ray of sunshine."
"Maybe I should try to actually go tell a teacher about Demise instead of fighting my own battles like a grown-up," she replies back sassily. Midna frowns.
"Is he bugging you again?" (Y/n) shrugs.
"A kick to the groin along with a jab at the throat usually drives him off, sometimes punch to the gut and bringing his face to meet my knee works more effectively."
"You're going to push that f***er past his limit one day," Midna warns her, but she brushes her off.
"That'll be the day I actually tell someone I kick a** every day." She shakes her head, rolling her eyes playfully.
"Alright, but I won't say I told you so when he finally snaps."
The rest of lunch passes by smoothly, consisting of mainly (Y/n) joking around with Dark and having a sass-off with Ghirahim. Of course, it wouldn't be complete without her and Midna talking about society today as practice for their politics class and Malon complaining about being the only girl in her gym class who can do a pull-up due to living on a farm. (Y/n) always feels a bit down when lunch ends. It's a save haven to her. But alas, it's time to go show Demise how he shouldn't mess with girls...again.
(Y/n) stands, having to go to the bathroom around this time everyday, makes her way down the empty hall. Sure enough, Demise is waiting for her. She can spot his fiery red hair, soulless black eyes, and completely black attire anywhere. She groans mentally. Great, he brought his whiny lackey, Zant, with him. She's more annoyed than afraid. She's been dealing with him for five years now, he doesn't scare her anymore.
She walks straight up to him, matching his glare with one of her own. "What is it today, fire-head? I didn't expect you to be early."
Demise smirks, snapping his fingers. Zant moves towards her, and immediately her fist flies towards his face. Her eyes widen when he catches it, forcing her wrist above her head. When she tries to use her other hand, he does the exact same thing. She swings her foot at him, but Zant dodges with ease and stands on one of her feet.
She scowls at Demise. "Two against one? I didn't think you needed help," (Y/n) hisses. Demise chuckles.
"If it helps to teach you a lesson, I don't mind having a little help." He raises his fist, and she braces herself for impact as she struggles to get out of Zant's grip.
"HEY!" Everyone's heads turn to see everyone's favorite hero storm down the hallway, fury and rage shining in his eyes. Demise lowers his fist, glowering at him. Link marches up to him, his gaze more intense than Demise's. "What the h*** do you think you're doing?"
"Teaching this brat not to mess with me," Demise growls.
"So you have your sidekick pin her against a wall while you pummel her? That's low, even for a cretin like you," Link snaps. "Now get out of here before I tell the football coach about your performance enhancers." Demise lets out another growl before turning around and stalking away, Zant scurrying behind him.
Link's angry look changes into one of worry as he faces (Y/n). "Are you okay?" She glares at him, rubbing her wrists.
"I'm fine," she forces through her teeth. She tries to move around him, but he stops her.
"Hey, how long has this been going on?"
"Why should you care?" She asks coldly. Link winces.
"Because you should be getting help-"
"I don't need any help. I'm alright on my own." She tries to walk away again, but he rests a hand on her shoulder.
"Can I at least get your name?" (Y/n) can feel her patience snap. She spins around, shouting,
"A name? A name? I know you've got new friends, but you don't have the decency to remember my name?" Link opens his mouth to say something, but she cuts him off. "Don't you dare try to make any excuses. Even though I suspected you had forgotten all about me, I didn't think it would be this extreme! You wanna know my name? Why don't you go look through your old photo albums, then come talk to me, you f***ing jerk!" With that, (Y/n) runs back towards the cafeteria, leaving Link in a mixture of shock and confusion.
What has he done?
