Description

Name: Pulpinella (pulpo + Pulcinella)

Name Trivia: Pulpo is the Spanish word for "octopus", and Pulcinella is a mischievous stock character from the Italian commedia dell'arte and Neapolitan puppetry, known for his black mask, hooked nose, and transgressive, devilish nature.

Type: Dark/Fighting

Category: Final Dance Pokémon

Height: 6'06" (1.98 m)

Weight: 169.2 lbs (76.7 kg)

Gender Ratio: 12.5% male, 87.5% female

Ability: Master Raid

Dex Entry #1: It lures with passionate movements and blinding lights, coercing the prey to dance with them. Once close, it strikes with all of its tentacles with a blinding speed, before finishing them off with a slumbering kiss. It has a peculiar relationship with Malamar and Inteleon.

Dex Entry #2: The yellow parts of its body flash and pulse, luring prey to get whatever it wants from them - be it favors or food. The relationships between Malamar and Inteleon confuse experts as it would fight with Inteleon one moment, then work with Malamar the next.

Stats: 80 / 115 / 65 / 70 / 65 / 135 = 530

Learnset: Reversal, Charm, Crunch, Wrap, Agility, Rapid Spin, Facade, U-turn, Triple Kick, Acrobatics, Poison Jab, Night Slash, High Jump Kick

Signature Ability: Master Raid

Boost the Pokémon's evasiveness when its stats are lowered

Signature Move: Fan-Tangle

Dark / Physical / ATK 80 / ACC 100% / PP 10

The user strikes the opponent with all of its tentacles before concluding with a kiss. This move may also include sleep (10% chance).

Inspirations: Markiplier's "Smash or Pass: All 898 Pokémon", Game Theory's "I Made Markiplier's Perfect Pokemon!" and "Markiplier, Please Smash My Pokemon!", the mimic octopus, the blue-ringed octopus, femme fatale characters (Catwoman and Rouge the Bat specifically), flamenco dancers, Capoeira, and Zanni masks. Its signature move is a reference to the fandango, a lively Spanish dance for couples.

I played Pokémon Smash or Pass and, just like MatPat, analyzed them to create my perfect Pokémon. Again. And I think I found her. And in case anyone was curious, the Pokémon I would smash are as follows:

  • Kanto: Blastoise, Arbok, Nidoqueen, Alakazam, Machoke, Machamp, Tentacruel, Geodude, Hitmonchan, Ditto, and Mewtwo

  • Johto: Slowking, Scizor, and Shuckle

  • Hoenn: Blaziken, Gardevoir, Milotic, Gorebyss, and Deoxys

  • Sinnoh: Roserade, Lopunny, Lucario, and Tangrowth

  • Unova: Serperior, Sawk, Cofagrigus, Zoroark, and Golurk

  • Kalos: Chesnaught, Delphox, Greninja, Pangoro, and Malamar

  • Alola: Decidueye, Primarina, Salazzle, and Pheromosa

  • Galar/Hisui: Rillaboom, Inteleon, Grapploct, Obstagoon, and Enamorus

  • Paldea: Quaquaval, Toedscruel, and Slither Wing
