TROODON FORMOSUS
"Handsome Wounding Tooth"
Leidy, 1856
Length: 2.4m (7.9 ft)
Weight: 50kg (110 lbs.)
Location: Montana, USA
Era: Campanian age, upper Cretaceous (75 million years ago)

Classification:
Dinosauria
Saurischia
Theropoda
Tetanurae
Avetheropoda
Coelurosauria
Maniraptoriformes
Maniraptora
Aviremigia
Paraves
Deinonychosauria
Troodontidae

Notes:
Originally named for a single tooth, Troodon has a history of taxonomic uncertainty. At first, it was classified as a type of lizard, though it was for a time considered to be a type of Pachycephalosaur due to the superficial similarity in their teeth. It wasn't until the eighties when a jawbone featuring the distinctive teeth was discovered was its true identity made clear as a small carnivorous dinosaur identical to the previous described Stenonychosaurus, which was sunk in favor of the older Troodon name, though there has been some recent talk of splitting the Troodon genus once again from the more complete remains.

Synonyms:
Polyodontosaurus Gilmore, 1932
Stenonychosaurus Sternberg, 1932
Pectinodon Carpenter, 1982

...and a certain magical creature I'm thinking of writing about!

Anyway, no, i haven't posted it yet, and it's in italian :)

:( I won't be able to read it then :(

(No, google translate is absolutely incompetent in transferring the style of an artistic text. It can't even deliver the meaning...)

I really like this one. I've always liked the looks of black troodontids for some reason. Though this looks kind of like a Pokemon to me, not sure why, either.

i like the black look too--reminds me of the way stenonychosaurus/troodon was seemingly always cast as a sneaky nocturnal hunter in my cherished dinobooks from the late eighties/early nineties.
