Sternfield, 1911 (Originally Gigantosaurus Fraas, 1908)

Weight: 20 tonnes (22 tons)
Location: Tendaguru Formation, Tanzania
Era: Tithonian age, upper Jurassic (150 million years ago)

Classification:
Dinosauria
Saurischia
Sauropodomorpha

Notes:
In 1922, Tornieria was concluded to be a synonym of the North American Barosaurus and was largely forgotten, mentioned in literature as a small side note as evidence of the congruity of the Morrison and Tendaguru Formations. As of recent years it's come to light that the two localities were not as similar as once believed and since the early 21st century the recognition of Tornieria as a separate genus has again become the prevailing opinion.

Synonyms:
Gigantosaurus africanus Fraas, 1908
