Description
project: DINOSAURIA
specimen 010
STYGIMOLOCH SPINIFER
"Horned Devil from the River of Death"
Galton & Sues, 1983
Length: 3m (10ft)
Weight: 90kg (200lb)
Location: Montana, USA
Era: Maastrichtian age, upper Cretaceous (65 million years ago)
Classification:
Dinosauria
Ornithischia
Cerapoda
Marginocephalia
Pachycephalosauria
Pachycephalosauridae
Pachycephalosaurinae
Notes:
Recent analysis may indicate not only that the similar (but flat headed) Dracorex hogwartsia may be a juvenile Stygimoloch, but that Stygimoloch itself may be a juvenile form of the contemporary Pachycephalosaurus wyomingensis.
Synonyms:
Dracorex hogwartsia? Bakker et al., 2006
UPDATE APR 30, 2013:
An old one I wanted to update a bit for a while. The feet always looked wrong to me, so they were completely redrawn, as were the hands. The lineart overall was touched up here and there. Not a major update, but an update nonetheless. As a side note, while I will be keeping this page and animal labeled "Stygimoloch," I no longer believe it to be a valid taxon. Had I done the project with what I know now, I would have done Pachycephalosaurus proper in its place. Go here ([link]) for the original Stygimoloch drawing and compare.

I am doing a display case of dinosaur fossils for my local gem and mineral show, next week. I really like your art, and I was wondering if I could use this one of Stygimoloch and the one of Thescelosaurus
