I awoke to sandpaper rubbing my cheek. My cheek stung. As I drowsily rubbed my cheek, my fingers came back damp. I turned over and opened my eyes, looking at my fingers.  It was too dark to see what colour my fingers were, but I could, at least, see well enough to see no major gradient in the colour of my fingers. What did this to me? Oh… My barely awake brain finally figured out the culprit.
“It’s the middle of the night Chat. You don’t need me to open the door for you, lazy cat. I made sure to leave the window open for you.”
I closed my eyes and tried to drift back into sleep. Something moved away from behind my head, walking in the direction of my feet. Good, he’s given up. Turned out that I was wrong. The persistent cat walked across me, then up to my face again. He meowed. Then he started licking my nose.
“Ouch, stop it! You win!” I reached out to stroke the cat to distract it while I mentally prepared myself f

What is a Dragon
There was quite the commotion in the town square. The two men had almost come to blows. Fortunately, the town priest had just arrived to resolve the dispute. The carpenter had sent his son to fetch the priest when he saw the conversation getting heated.
“It’s just a baby! It has done no wrong!” came one shout.
“Father, we should kill it before it grows into the monster that its kind are destined to be!” called the other.
“Silence.” One soft-spoken word and the all the chatter and shouts of those assembled were overcome by attentive silence. All eyes turned to the priest. The robed man stood in silence, looking at the yellow creature hiding between the traveller’s legs.
After the silence of an eternity, the priest looked to the smith. “What are its offences?”
“It is a monster! The world should be cleansed of these demons!”
“They are no-” The priest silenced the traveller with a wave of his hand.

A liftime ahead
The children ran and screamed, excitement barely contained. The caretakers ran to-and-fro, tending to a grazed knee, picking up books knocked from the shelf, resolving a minor dispute and, most importantly, keeping the tree – and the presents below – intact. Soon they would need to achieve the monumental task of getting rampaging ankle biters to calm down enough for prayer, and then the opening of the presents.
Aryana, the oldest there, joined in too – but was mindful of the little ones, and occasionally aided the adults when she didn’t have little ones hanging on her arms and legs. The thirteen-year-old allowed the joy of the playful kids to drown out her lifelong fear.
“On! You’re it!” Thomas shouted as he touched her, then sprinted away.
“Not for long!” Aryana called, as she stumbled after the boy with John – who had insisted he was not playing – hanging on her left leg. As the chase led them behind one of the many co

The Bridge
Dorian bowed his head as the ashes were scattered off The Edge, upon the closing of the prayer. He clutched the peculiar necklace around his neck, the one he’d been told to wear at all times. It was his most treasured possession, as he associated it with the deceased.
Matthias. His father. Gone. The one who took him in. Looked after him. Cared for Dorian for his whole life, after his biological parents had abandoned him. Dead. Body found in an alley beside the factory in which he worked. Heart failure.
The few people who cared enough to come offered Dorian condolences. They wanted to comfort the broken boy, but despondently knew their words to be useless. Dorian looked off The Edge, dark thoughts crossing his mind.
He had been given the customary three days off of factory work, in lieu of the death of a loved one. Then he’d have to return back to back-breaking factory work, as with almost every denizen of The Bridge. They supported the rich scientists of Selkirk, and the po

“Don’t go down that alley!”
“Their cars will catch up to me otherwise,” I yelled back at the voice coming from my headphones. I ran down the alley.
“They are wai-” I heard my brother sigh. “Why do you never listen to me?”
Police cars were blockading the alley in front of me, and the ones that had been chasing me screeched to a halt behind me. Techtor had been right about the alley, but I couldn’t let him know that I acknowledged that. If I hadn’t come down the alley, I would have had to fight them soon enough anyway. No clean escape this time. “I do listen to you… when I agree.”
“We’ve got the grey one trapped in an alleyway,” my keen ears heard one of the officers talking into his radio amongst the commotion. “Keep your eyes out for the other.” The police hurried to take shelter behind their vehicles, before training their firearms on me. They knew what was coming. Flickin

Marching into the command tent at Gallant’s Folly, I greeted the local commanding officer, “Salutations, Warmaster Gurnn. How fares the fort?”
“Excelsior, Marshal.” The Vigil officer saluted me. “We fare far better now that the Inquest has been purged from the area and our garrison has been enlarged.”
“Good. You are now to keep the region of Mount Maelstrom under the Orders’ control. You are in charge of maintaining the supply lines to our front lines, who are pushing into the Crystal Desert.”
“I had heard that you were mustering for a push across the Elon River and into the Crystal Desert, but I’m surprised how many troops you actually brought. I surmise that is why you took so long.”
“We may have defeated two Elder Dragons, Warmaster,” I said with a warning tone in my voice, “but that does not mean that we can underestimate

First Encounter
These humans are ridiculous! Home was getting rather crowded, you see, so I’ve moved to a new continent to try live there. Early this morning I was flying around, exploring my new territory, when I spotted a strange area at the edge of the forest. Much of it was plants, strangely growing in rows. There were also some animals and a couple of strange artificial structures. Curious, and a bit hungry, I landed on a strip of dirt between the animals and the plants.
Immediately the animals panicked and ran, mooing deeply as they sensed that they might end up as crispy snacks, very soon. I eyed them, looking for the biggest and juiciest looking, before realising that they could not escape. Naturally, I could have flown to catch up to them, but they were inside a square made of branchless, leafless trees. I decided that I would investigate first, eat later. There must be something else around here. Something smart enough to build these structures. So I looked around.
There was nothing in

The Hunt
Signs of a creature living there were obvious. A dozen scarred and cracked trees oozed sap. It must have rubbed itself on them, stripping them of all branches on the side of the tree several metres up, using another tree each time. The ‘nest’ was more of a scorched slight indent in the ground, where the creature heated the ground afore sleeping each night.
The group of men slowly entered the clearing, looking around. Their quarry was not there, which was of some relief to the five hunters. The hunters searched the area and, plants aside, found not a single living thing.
“Come, let’s get going now. We know the reports were not exaggerated in the slightest. Perhaps even understated. Let’s go get reinforcements and take down this creature,” a blonde man suggested, apprehension evident in his voice.
“Good idea.” Rylan started walking back the route they had come. I’m going to ask for a raise when I get back, he concluded. Bump&

My entourage had significantly decreased in size by the time I reached Tarir, as most of the members of what was left of the once mighty Pact had to once again return to the battlefront along with some of our allies. Just as with Zhaitan’s minions, the Mordrem seemed intent to stick around and go down fighting. Yet, there was still a sizeable crowd behind me – and another forming ahead of me in Tarir, this one mostly consisting of Exalted. As I approached, Luminate – their leader – floated forwards.
“Greetings, Egg Bearer. Kiru tells me that his ley-energy sensors detected copious amounts of ley energy released from the hotspot you and he had identified as Mordremoth’s location. In addition, the ley energy present in Tarir has increased. Is it done?”

Greatmar2's Commissions.

A big thank you to Isvoc for the profile picture. Find its deviation here.

Birthday: 31 July

I haven’t used my camera for a long while (January 2015 was the last, if the date on my latest image import folder is to be believed). This morning I decided that I must take pictures again.

So, I went for a walk around the security estate that I live in, taking pictures of anything that I found interesting. I ended up with 114 pictures before the camera’s battery went flat (hasn’t been charged since my mom last used it, which was also a while ago). I have selected a number of the better pictures, and shall be sharing them with you.

I will also be taking more pictures this weekend and I will be going through old photos that I have not uploaded. Please notify me if you wish to use images, and also give me credit for images that you use.

Pictures will be uploaded here occasionally. However, they are queued to automatically post twice a day on Tumblr. If you wish to view them on Tumblr, click the tag link below.

All the images in this picture-spree will be tagged “winter is coming” because, well, Winter is coming soon here in South Africa. Old pictures that are included in these uploads will also be tagged too, even though possibly not having been taken in autumn/winter. :P

Commissions are OPEN!

Last Updated: 28 November 2016

You can find all my commissions under the solo category on my blog. Note that examples link to different websites depending on the recipient: Dragon Press (my website), Dragon Tumbls (my Tumblr blog) or deviantArt. It can always be found on Dragon Press, and usually the other two as well.

Commission types

Normal Prompts: $10

+ $3 for each 500 words over 2000 words (e.g. 2001-2500 = $13, 2501-3000 = $16, etc.)

You give me a prompt and I write a piece from the prompt. Prompt pieces are intended to be what I am inspired to write by your prompt, but you may make hints or suggestions.

These pieces will be a minimum of 600 words, but are generally around the 1000 word mark.

The Bridge - for Dario -  1265 words

A lifetime ahead - for 16Shards - 1385 words

Chat - for 16Shards - 1025 words

What is a Dragon - prompt from Dragon Inspiration - 1012 words

The Choice - Writing Club - 964 words

Short prompt: $1

Short and sweet little prompts. You give me a prompt, and I write a short piece. They are not longer than a few hundred words.

The Fish - Writing Club - 198 words

A day in the class from the teacher’s point of view - Writing Club - 100 words

Collection of Prompts - Writing Club (Note: a couple are very short, due to the 5 minute time limit I had for them)

Two Suns - Writing Club - 96 Words

Topical piece (specific scenes, settings, ideas, topics, descriptions, OC stories etc.): $15-30

+$5 per 500 words over 2500 words (see normal prompts for an example)

You can dictate the contents of the writing. Generally, the more constrained and/or complex the request is, the greater the price. The overall storyline for these pieces can be provided by you, created by both of us, or left up to me to decide.

Fan fiction is acceptable if the characters and content can be explained to me in reasonable length, without me being forced to study a new fandom. If it is a topic I already know of, lucky you. Feel free to ask if I know of a particular game/book/movie/series (or check my Steam games or existing fan fictions).

For stories about your OCs (or OCs used with permission), the more backstory and information I have about the OC - the better. OC stories can be prompts of your OCs or specific storylines you want.

These pieces also have a minimum of 600 words, but the length could vary greatly based on what your commission is. If I feel it is a very long request that needs to be split into multiple chapters, I will inform you before invoicing.

Thief - for ElektronX - 1159 words

Compromised - for ElektronX - 1187 words

Mindscape - Guild Wars 2 art competition - 2196 words

Advance - Guild Wars 2 art competition - 2175 words

Bound - for A-Random-Commenter - 1800 words

The Hunt - 2014 school descriptive essay - 640 words

First Encounter - 2014 school narrative essay - 700 words

Poems: $5-20

I write a prompt poem or a poem with content you choose. Price varies on length and complexity. You may request specific formats. Poems may also be requested as part of a writing piece, to which its price shall be added.

Their length can greatly vary, but will be shorter than normal writing pieces.

I have not done many poems yet, but I will put effort into them.

Snowflake - Writing Club prompt - 64 words

The Destroyer - for myself - 132 words

Chase - multi-verse haiku for 2014 school library poem competition - 90 words

Multiple chapter commissions: priced by individual components

You may take commissions consisting of multiple chapters (separate writing pieces with shared/continuous story). Each chapter will be charged as per the type it falls into above.

You may make combinations of types via chapters. For example, you may request a prompt piece, then a topical piece for me to continue the story how you imagined it to continue from what I wrote.

The Artefact - three-part prompt story for Writing Club - Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3 - (Parts 1 and 2 are less than 600 words in this example)

General guidelines:

  • I have the right to refuse commissions without explanation
  • I will not write content I am uncomfortable with
  • I will not do any NSFW content
  • I will not do excessive violence or gore
  • I have not written much romance, but can attempt light romance
  • I will not do hate or abuse pieces
  • For prompt pieces that contain copyrighted images (e.g. non-public domain images), please find the original image and to contact and ask the owner for permission, or at least notify them that their image is being used if possible. I wish to link back to the artist’s/photographer's original work so that they get credit for their effort.
    • If it is non-copyright protected, please try your best anyway.

  • I may change the prices present here at any time, without prior notification. However, if you have received a quote from me (and have responded within a reasonable time) or are further in the commission process, the price for your commission will stay the same.
  • I may open or close commissions at any time. Please check whether they are open before sending me a request. I may keep a small waiting list, but I may refuse people if there are too many.
  • Any attempts of disrespecting or insulting me will result in partial refund proportional to progress made, and instant farewell regardless of stage your commission is in. In case of completed writing pieces, contact will be ceased without refunds.

Commission Process

  • Send me an email via, or a message on Tumblr or note on deviantArt containing the following information:
    • Commission type
    • PayPal email (so that I can send an invoice to your account)
    • Description of what you want in your commission, or prompt and prompt details
      • Please try use proper English while communicating with me. I will not be responsible for mistakes made due to language, communication or information mistakes on the client’s side.

    • Any additional information regarding your commission

  • I will respond when able, and give you a price quote.
  • If you choose to accept, I will send you an invoice.
  • I will only start the commission once I have received full payment.
  • I can take up to a few days to refine my ideas for the story, and usually do the writing in one sitting. Do not rush me. I wish to deliver quality work.
  • If there is an additional charge (e.g. due to large word count), I will notify you, and deliver the piece after I have received payment.
  • Once I have finished the piece, I will upload it to Google Docs and send it to you.
  • I will only upload the piece publicly with your permission.

Up to two times per commission, you may request to view the progress I have made with the commission. Note that you can only do this if I have received payment and begun the commission. If I contact you and show you my progress (most likely to ask your opinion on something), it will not subtract from the number of times you may request a WIP.

Full refunds are only available if I have not begun work on the piece. Otherwise you will be refunded proportionately to how much work I have done on the piece. If a piece is cancelled by me, due to my fault (e.g. unforeseen real life events), you will be provided a full refund unless otherwise requested.

If you are dissatisfied with the final piece, please prepare a list of the changes you would like me to make. They will be done free of charge if something was done improperly due to my mistake. Otherwise, changes will be charged basing on complexity and time they require.

Thank you, and enjoy!
